Nelson PawWord Story
Hey Dad, crazy day in Pawsburgh! Woke up to a post-apocalyptic world ๐ฒ No hoomans, so the doggos and I formed a pack, shared food, and got ready for vet visit 2moro. Miss u and our car rides. Love, Nelson ๐พ๐
It was a typical Wednesday morning in Pawsburgh, except my human had been out of town for a couple of days. There I was, Nelson, attempting to shake off a somewhat vivid dream involving a car ride to an ice cream truck serving Kongs, only to discover, well, it wasn’t a dream after all. I had woken up in post-apocalyptic Pawsburgh, with the aroma of Furrific Fried Chicken lingering in the air.
Striking the posture of an explorer, I began the day’s adventures, my blue and brown eyes scanning the horizon for any hint of excitement. A well-known attraction in these parts, Red Beagle Beach, was now a desolate landscape stretched before me. Seagulls cawed ominously overhead, their beady eyes watching as I made my way across the sand.
I felt a slight pang of sadness, knowing that the happy days of playing rough-and-tumble games with other dogs down at South Poodle Pond were now a distant memory. But my naturally curious nature and the prospect of a new adventure drove me forward, determined to make the best of it.
However, not all dogs were as optimistic as me. The four-legged residents of Husky Hill had become reserved, downright spooky even, as they howled their mournful songs from atop their once bustling hangout.
With my stomach rumbling, I entered Chow Down Chow Chow – a favorite eatery among Pawsburgh’s dogs. The place was still stocked with beef, both dry food and ground, and, as if by divine intervention, dog treats just begging me to snag one. As I nibbled on a beef-flavored biscuit, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of Zach, my two-legged friend, rolling his eyes at my rebellious snacking habits.
Suddenly, the floor began to shake, and dogs of all breeds started flooding into the restaurant. Even the elusive and morose huskies had abandoned their hill in search of sustenance. Their eyes were wild, their fur unkempt, and their desperate demeanor unnerving. I realized, in an instant, we were all now united in our quest for survival and camaraderie.
As we all stood in the middle of the Chow Down Chow Chow, attempting to establish our new reality, I forged an unspoken connection with each dog. Together we formed a pack, and with grit clenched between our teeth, we shared the food and barked together the sentiment etched in the shadows of our eyes – “We shall overcome.”
After a heartening meal and sharing of doggy anecdotes, we reluctantly dispersed, each of us having tasks to attend to as we prepared for the next significant event in our crazy post-human world – a visit from Christine, the veterinarian, who, rumor has it, has the perfect apocalyptic treatments for our survival.
As I padded my way back home alone, thoughts of baths and car rides flooded my mind in bittersweet waves. But I was not afraid. Even if the world had gone topsy-turvy, I was Nelson, the Bulldog with mismatched eyes and a heart full of loyalty, love, and hope. And in Pawsburgh, my friends and I, we still had each other, and that was enough.
The End.
