Guess who got stuck ruling Pawsburgh while you’re gone? Our day started early with me and Zach, hitting up our favorite eateries, The Barkery to savor some beef, Pup-Cakes for a creamy treat, and a hearty meal at The Canine Cafe. Btw, you owe me one pot roast!

The day wasn’t all rainbows though. Ran into Christine at the Northern Choco Chihuahua Castle. Yes, the dreaded Witch of Water Baths herself, but who’s scared? Not Nelson! Even a wet coat of fur didn’t keep me from having the most pawtastic day ever.

Though Pawsburgh missed its favorite human, Nelson the bulldog kept the throne warm, ruling it – one shoe at a time. 😉

As dawn breaks over Pawsburgh, and with my mismatched eyes – one sky-blue, the other coffee-brown – I watch the town from my vantage point: the royal carpet (or the welcome rug, as Dad likes to call it). There’s something in the air today, some untold expectation, an aura of impending adventure. Hold your leashes tight, Pawsburgh, for Nelson is set to conquer another day.

My human is out of town, and I can taste the promise of the day: full of games, delicious food, and minimal bathing! With the rustling of my noble cape, the backyard’s door, I sneak off towards the grandeur of Pawsburgh – today, my adventure starts at the Northern Choco Chihuahua Castle. Incoming, Duke of Dress-shoes!

I meet Zach, my trusty confidante, in the White Westie Woods, a Labrador with the wit of a duchess at a cocktail party and the soul of a shoe sniffer. He compliments my newest quarry, a dapper dress shoe, now adequately gnawed.

We march towards our first pit-stop: The Barkery. No plate of poultry or platter of pork could compete with the divine doggie delicacy of beef! The mere smell brings tears to my eyes; such blessed bovine brilliance deserves a moment of respectful silence. But, the silence can wait. Let’s dig in!

My sweet tooth throbbing for attention brings us next to Pup-Cakes. The sight of a humongous ham hock flavor sitting on ice in the window – I can almost hear the angels singing. Five minutes later, my muzzle is smeared with cream, and the world seems like a better place.

Our food tour then takes a detour. Zach suggests Pooched Potatoes while I, in all my beef-filled glory, convince him that a visit to The Canine Cafe is non-negotiable. Veal or Venison? Such decisions were always tough. I opt for neither, instead licking clean a bowl full of beef soup while Zach settles for a plate of pot roast.

Bellies full and tails wagging, the Castle’s shadow falls upon us. Within the stony walls of this fortress, alliances are formed, rivalries fester, and the shoes are aplenty. Yet, a daunting sight awaits us – the Witch of Water Baths has arrived, complete with her dreaded tub. The peace at the Castle trembles.

The Witch is none other than Christine, my vet, the bearer of dog treats and wet fur. Unease ripples through us, but Zach and I stand our ground. A battleground awaits us, and if there’s one thing bulldogs do, we fight till our last chew toy, till our last shoe. Besides, power is temporary, wet fur’s forever!

With a sigh for the upcoming struggle, an eye for the sneaky slipper resting next to Christine’s bag, and a burp tasting surprisingly of the morning’s beef, I prepare myself. No battles are ever easy, but as they say, In Pawsburgh, you either snooze or you lose. And losing was not on Nelson’s menu today. Wet fur or not, Pawsburg is mine, and I shall rule it, one shoe at a time!
