Sure, being a dog, you’d think Harold would be out of sorts here in Spencerville. But no sir, he’s just as much at home here as he was back in his old neighborhood. I catch him occasionally sunbathing on the shores of Upper Black Bulldog Bay, those yellow eyes always telling stories, his chestnut coat glistening under the Spencerville sun.

He had a soft spot for Bow Wow Bistro, the one joint that served up the best bone soup. He’d eat it off heart-shaped plates, a blue napkin tied around his furry neck, drawing chuckles from Smiley and Babe, his closest pals.

“Harold, you’re such a romantic!” Babe would tease him, a splotchy spaniel with eyes that could melt the coldest of hearts. Harold would just smile in response, that gentle soul of his, ambivalent about the comparisons to those sophisticated and picky French poodles.

Sure, Spencerville was all fun and games, but you know how it is, ain’t no place like home. When the taverns along Tan Dalmatian Desert got too noisy, Harold would whimper. And let me tell you, when a hundred-pounder like him whimpers, you notice.

As days pass by, I see Harold’s longing for his human parents, the couple that used to shower him with love and care he now dearly missed. And yet, there was this remarkable resilience he showed, biding time, engaging in playful banter with Betty and Pooh, two jokers in fur coats, and I realized we humans could learn a thing or two from old Harold.

Sure, he’s a proud pup, a brown wolf mix, but as his friends back at home said, he’s got a heart of gold. For now, as he waits, he trolls through Spencerville, making the best of it. He walks in solitude, a gentle giant among tiny Chihuahuas, strolling past restaurants, and visiting the dog park where North Chihuahua Castle proudly stands on the horizon.

The sun sets in Spencerville, another perfect evening falls, and Harold gazes at the stars, missing home, but content to be amongst friends. The town that once seemed strange now felt comfortable, almost familiar. He knew he’d see his humans again.

“All in good time, mate.” Babe said, putting a paw on his shoulder. Harold nodded, his heart hopeful, as he waited for that special reunion, for love always finds its way back home.
