I’ve got to tell you about this caper that’s got Spencerville all shook up. Now, we’re talking about a place where every dog has its day, every day, you catch my drift? Now, picture Lambeau, that German Shepherd mix who could pass for a giant beagle – robust, floppy-eared, and always ready to schmooze. Charter member of the Spencerville canine caucus and a connoisseur of steak. “Steak!” he’d bark, his tail a furry blur of ecstatic anticipation, “Not fish, I mean, who eats fish!” Well, him, Huddy, and Missy – the canine Power Trio of Spencerville, were up to their collars in mystery.

You have to understand that here in Spencerville, we’re not about the small stuff. Fetching balls is all well and good, but a slobber-stained tennis ball doesn’t pay the bills at Bark Burgers. No, what we consider small potatoes would probably shake you to your core, a heavy burden for anyone in the two-legged world.

Our caper begins when the steaks begin to disappear. Bald-faced thievery, if you’ll pardon my French, directly from Pupperoni Pizza’s grill. You could have seen Lambeau’s droopy ears stand erect; if they could, the injustice was that searing. Now, theft is one thing. Never nice, but in Spencerville, nearly perfect, it was sacrilege.

The trio sprang into action. Huddy and Missy performed reconnaissance in Yellow Tan Dalmatian Desert while Lambeau sniffed clues Upper Collie Canyon. Nothing gets past those floppy ears and pointy snout, I tell you. Especially not the scent of juicy steak.

One evening, after a day of mind-numbingly inconclusive evidence gathering, the trio sat, surrounded by unfinished Bark Burgers and unsucked Pupsicle sticks, musing over their finds. A breakthrough came when Lambeau, pondering over the garden sprinklers’ sudden eruptions – an absolute nightmare – experienced a moment of ‘Eureka!’

“Those sprinklers, guys,” Lambeau began cautiously. “They’re uncontrollable, unpredictable… you never know, maybe our steak thief is hiding among them!”

Ecstatic, Lambeau and his friends, tails wagging and jaws hanging in disbelief, watched as Bobby the Raccoon was ushered out of Spencerville.

“I think we should get steak,” Lambeau proclaimed heroically once Bobby was out of sight and the sprinklers were safe of pilferage. The trio agreed, tails sweeping the air and a new adventure firmly under their belts. Just another day in Spencerville, my friend, where the steak is juicy, the sprinklers er…sprinkly, and the adventure is just beginning.
