Gus PawWord Story
“Hey Mama,
Gus Gus here. Got to share my day in Spencerville. Woke up, did stretches, sis already baking at Pup-Tastic Pizza. Yup, my love for cardboard boxes still crazy as ever. Played in Westie Woods, went to Western Labradoodle Lake (no watermelons!). Doggie daycare was bustling but I was in a lake-mood you know? Saw the lake on the way, my heart practically did a somersault. Enjoyed stinky fish, skidding stones & old hooves. Lunch was the best chicken from FFC. Avoided the Vet, went on to Pooch Playhouse to watch some drama! Went home, had a relaxed evening, just me and my Beanbone toys. Missed you a bit, but I know we’re both living our adventures. Anyway, just a day in my doggie paradise.
Woof-woof,
Your Bubby Bear”
I rolled out of my beautiful bed, strewn with my favorite Beanbone toys, and did my morning stretches. The sun shone bright in Spencerville, my older sister was already up and baking something scrumptious at Pup-Tastic Pizza.
“Morning Gus,” she greeted, her human face alight with the warmth of the oven. “Care for a cardboard box?”
That’s Spencerville for you, they knew my eccentric love for robust boxes.
“Thanks, sis,” I barked, taking a joyful dive into the offered box.
My day had a lot of promise – Westie Woods, Western Labradoodle Lake, but no watermelon. Definitely no watermelon. The thought itself left a sour taste in my mouth. I shook my head, trotting off towards the doggie daycare with a wagging tail. The Spencervillians always eyeing me for my white stripe, calling it the line of curiosity. They weren’t wrong.
The daycare was bustling. Dogs of all breeds and sizes exchanging stories, most of them about their past lives and humans. Me, I love joining in, but today, I had a destination – the beloved Western Labradoodle Lake.
Past Furrific Fried Chicken and the Tail Wagger’s Tailor, I caught sight of the lake, vast and inviting. My heart leapt. I knew something interesting would come out of today, I could feel it in my jowls.
I spent hours there, blissful, carefree hours that flew by like the wind. Skidding stones, old hooves, stinky fish, the lake never failed to satiate my curiosity. I spent the lunch devouring the freshest of chicken from Furrific Fried Chicken, tail wagging in contentment.
Later, skirting around my least favorite place – The Vet’s Clinic – I made my way to the Pooch Playhouse to watch the latest doggie drama. It’s a known fact, we dogs could act just as well as cats strut around.
As the day concluded, I found myself in a slow-paced amble, heading back home. Strangely, it had been a day without any pool, without a human complexing my simple joys, without the detested ear-cleaning. A perfect day in Spencerville.
Home was crimson and warm, with a hint of pizza aroma wafting from next door. I curled back into my beautiful bed, Beanbone toys all around, feeling fulfilled. Life may have been different, maybe a bit less adventurous with us being in Spencerville, but it was amusingly sweet. As I drifted off to sleep, my heart ached a little for missing my human, but knowing I had lived a day brimming with my simple joys brought a warm comfort. And I knew, my human was somewhere out there, living their life, waiting to reunite. A content growl escaped my throat. This was my paradise. This was life in Spencerville.
The End.
