Hey Mom, it’s Pootsy!

So, you won’t believe it, but I went bonkers for adventure today! Joined a scavenger hunt, dashed around Spencerville, from Red Beagle Beach to Shepherd Skyline, even made a pit stop at the Dapper Dog Salon (don’t worry, avoided the ear cleaning part). Met some cool pups; even found my inner athlete, can you believe it?

The best part? Pup-Tastic Pizza had Mr.Flugleman’s Meat Madness on the menu. Peanut butter snuck onto my slice – the audacity! But, boy it was delightful.

Guess I shouldn’t turn up my snout at new experiences, especially when plush monkeys and pizza are involved. Ended the day under the warm boardwalk lights, realizing that Spencerville isn’t just any old place, it’s our special forever home.

Let me tell you about the day when Spencerville became truly forever for Poot. It started like any other, the morning sun filtering through Poot’s treasured backyard, the rhythm of his sniffing the morning dew, almost syncopated in its simplicity, punctuated by his questionable decision-making when avoiding those pesky squirrels.

“Dapper Dog Salon’s annual charity event beckons,” I told Poot as we munched over a hearty breakfast. His eyes said it all, “Say what now?”

As if on cue, the mail arrived, a Spencerville cable news extra where the headline blared “Daring Dash Day.” A scavenger hunt that would have teams of pet proprietors racing from Spotted Red Beagle Beach to Shepherd Skyline, culminating at the Bullmastiff Boardwalk. Poot’s favorite chew spots were on that path. I registered us laughing to myself about our couch potato lifestyle meeting an epic endeavor.

I told Poot, “No one expects us couch dwellers to win, Poot. But picture all the plush monkeys across the routes? Plus, at Pup-Tastic Pizza, they’re serving Mr.Flugleman’s Meat Madness.” Even the stoic Poot couldn’t resist a wag at that.

The day ascended, with Poot reluctantly joining. We were against the brawny Bulldog, Beaker; the sprightly Spaniel, Sophie; the fleet-footed Greyhound, Gazelle, and a chorus of spry pups. That’s when the Spencerville charm set in – it wasn’t a race; this was an adventure. Along we went, stopping at the Dapper Dog Salon where Poot decided he was okay with just a bit of primping, stepping back from ear-cleaning.

Poot was in his social element. He played joyously with the others, yet missed our other family members. And the Pizza happened. Every revered morsel of Mr.Flugleman’s Meat Madness was an epicurean delight for Poot. As the puzzled peanut butter sneaked into his pizza, his bright eyes widened. The audacity!

Then began the dash to Shepherd Skyline. Poot, my introverted Pug, was suddenly wicking himself through the rushing meadows, over the hills, like a streak of greased lightning. Each challenge rising was met by an equal rise in Poot’s determination.

And as we found the final clue, a plush monkey with the word ‘dash’ embroidered, his heart melted. Poot, my homebody, sniffed around the beach and basked under the boardwalk lights. For a dog who was used to his backyard, he had suddenly embraced Spencerville.

“I suppose,” I mused, “even the shy bloom out in delightful company.” Poot wagged again, as if saying, well… “When in Spencerville!”

In Spencerville, I think Poot found his newfound love for adventure; an appreciation for a bit of chaos, adventure and high drama which was delightfully epic. What a day it was where the timid rhythm of Poot’s heart had morphed into a grand symphony! Resting our tired bones under the boardwalk lights, my introverted Poot and I felt right at home, because though miles away, this Spencerville was – our forever home.
