There comes a point in every soul’s journey where we must stride into the horizon of the unknown. The sun sets on our date with mortality, making way for the dawn of an eternal twilight, a twilight that’s welcomed my affectionate, barrel-shaped, companion – Cassie – into the folds of Spencerville.

Spencerville, ya listenin’? A realm nestled in the downy expanse of what our human perception would reckon as the Great Beyond; A realm that sparkles with doggy diners and feline fascinations, where there’s nary a gloom nor a lonely stride. This here is a realm where the ghostliness of Cassie’s mortality hangs around her like a warm shawl rather than a specter.

As I pass by Tan Dalmatian Desert, I’d swear that I can see her there, sprawled out in Spencerville’s perpetually sunny climate, her fawn coat shimmering against the sandy grains, her inquisitive dark brown eyes squinting with mirth. She’d never miss an opportunity to feel the heat ripple over her skin while indulging in the sight of the desert’s rugged beauty. Spencerville, she loved ya… and surely, it loved her too.

Our Cassie! A rambunctious spirit with an air of independence, steadfast, yet with a heart softer than the thistle down. A known protector, and a child’s best companion, that’s how she’s fondly remembered. Her quirky charm, her disdain for them peas and beans, and a sweet tooth that’s had its fair share, why those traits, they’ve painted stories as colorful as the rock formations jutting out from the heart of Spencerville.

We’d stroll about Poodle Pond or take a leisure ride up to Siberian Summit, her tail curled and wagging with anticipation, the dreary plains of our farm life brighter under her enamoring spirit. She’d sniff headstrong at the wind, nuzzle them sheep or take a joyous lap around the homestead like a prairie fire. She sure had a way with things, our Cassie.

Spencerville, it’s a bewitchin’ place of creation, painted with the ink of sensation and the quill of a fading memory. They’d say that’s where our Cassie is right now – living in the speckled landscape of a legend, surrounded by her kinfolk, Bitty, Patch, and good ‘ol Raisin.

Nights like these, I’d find myself walking through them wide plains of home; the fading trail of her memory felt with each wind’s whisper. I’d journey past the vegetable patch, a sight that would bring a chuckle to my weathered face. Cassie, with her peculiar disdain for ’em greens, she’d be waggin’ her tail with fierce joy now, I reckon.

The tale of Cassie, the Pug, now braves a voyage in the tales of Spencerville’s history; A history written in the sunshine and dappled with laughter, wrapped up in the gentle hold of timelessness. And we, her mortal companions, bide our time under the gold-soaked sunset, waiting to meander again in the hallowed halls of Spencerville.
