Mister Pemberton PawWord Story
“Hey Ma,
You wouldn’t believe my day! After breakfast at Pup-Peroni, instead of my typical sunlit snooze, I found a spectral Springer Spaniel lost in Pawsburg! We turned into ghost detectives, even styling fur at Best in Show, brokered peace with broccoli & survived a hairy vet trip. Even in Pawsburg, there’s always room for mystery, which made the day an intriguing one. Extra bacon tomorrow, though?
Licks and wags,
MR P”
I’m Mister Pemberton, of Pawsburg – yes, the three-legged black pug with an allure that’ll put Clark Gable to shame. On a rather dull looking morning in Pawsburg, just after I bid farewell to my waitress at Pup-Peroni, a slice of half-eaten bacon still nestled in my jowls, something strange began to unfold.
Normally after a hearty breakfast, I’d take the scenic route by the Western Labradoodle Lake, sneak into Lower Golden Gate Gardens for a swift snooze in the sunlit patches, meanwhile avoiding that dreaded dog-park. But today, the ordinary took a detour. As I passed by the Eastern White Westie Woods, I noticed a shivering shadow. A canine apparition, one might say.
Ridiculous, I thought. There’s no such thing as ghost dogs, is there? Besides, I was simply minding my own business, my mind full of delicious bacon and my Squeaky Chinese Dumpling waiting for me at Doggie Daycare. But, as curious as I was (admittedly, I do have a flair for the dramatic), I decided to investigate.
Spreading my charm like a perfumer his wares, I found the apparition radiated a homely warmth. A spectral Springer Spaniel appeared before me, building up from smoke and leaf litter. It turns out he was lost, stuck between kibbles and eternity, unable to find his proverbial leash.
And so, our odd adventure began as we weaved through Pawsburg like a couple of unlikely companions-slash-private eye investigators. Helping him gave my day, usually marked by steered clear of broccoli at Doggy Donuts and basking under kisses at the Doggie Depot, an extra dash of intrigue.
Who knew there’d be a day when I, Mister Pemberton, would be styling spectral fur at Best in Show Photography or mediating a peace treaty with broccoli just to help a phantasmal pal cross the bridge to the other side? Not to mention cringing like a hairless Chiweenie during the hellish ear-cleaning episode at the vet’s in an attempt to build some dog-ghost karma.
Yet, as the sun set and the shadowy specter finally found peace, I realized that life in Pawsburg was never dull. There was always room for the mysterious and unknown, even in our little dog-friendly sanctuary. And just like that, I was back at Pup-Peroni, delivering another day’s tales to my waitress, all the while knowing one thing for sure – there’s never a dull day in the life of Mister Pemberton.
The End.
