Sophie PawWord Story
“Mom, dodging tomatoes & kids, ran into those odd delivery guys again (ew!). Spent night at Pupsicle Palace with Dot & Russell, devoured Big Macs and fries – yum! PS: Please stock up on more squeaky ducks. Love, your Queen of Spencerville, Girlie”
In the gritty, yet surprisingly heartwarming heart of Spencerville, I knew a dame named Sophie. A real classic broad she was, all snowy white fur and dainty sniffs at the local flora. If you wanted to charm her, you’d better have been a daisy and not some neighborhood brat. You see, our captivating bulldog femme fatale had some peculiar taste.
Saturday nights, you could find her down at the Pupsicle Palace, that diner on the corner. With her two best pals, Lil Dot and Fat Russell, she’d belly up to the counter for the kind of meal that’d make a health inspector blanch. No froufrou chow for this gal, no sir. She’d sink her teeth into a Big Mac and gobble up French fries, eyes sparkling with pure, undiluted joy. The human-like joint didn’t raise an eyebrow serving their specialty to them, known simply as ‘Sophie’s delight.’
But don’t mistake her for an easy meal; she’s got more layers than a Spencerville onion. That’s right, Sophie had some hang-ups. Not unlike the dames from those classic noir tales I used to flip through. Children sent her into a frenzy, tomatoes were her arch-nemesis, and don’t get me started about the delivery guys, our otherworldly emissaries carrying alien packages and strange scents that troubled Sophie’s canine senses.
And yet, in spite of all her hang-ups, there she was, the heart and soul of Spencerville, holding her own at the Bullmastiff Boardwalk. And she wouldn’t trade it for anything. Not for all the squeaky ducks at the Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Store or a lifetime supply of fries at the Chow Hound Cafe. Because at the end of it all, here in the canine-filled town, among the afternoons frolicking in the Fawn Cream Maltese Meadow, she was the queen. Long live the queen!
They say every dog has its day, but in Spencerville, Sophie was having a lifetime. A nearly pawfect existence, if you’d pardon the pun, waiting for that grand reunion we all dream of, the beautiful proverbial cherry on top of this warmhearted yarn.
Be it the Pupsicle Palace’s crackling sign or the sunset hitting the Bullmastiff Boardwalk just right, there was a shadowy beauty under the cheerful surface of Spencerville that our dame, Sophie, added depth to. So, here’s to Sophie – the bulldog heroine with the heart of gold, who made Spencerville just a tad bit more interesting, one Big Mac at a time. And beneath those bright city lights, I reckon her story was just beginning…
The End.
