Tanner PawWord Story
“Mom, this is Tanner. Just your average day in Spencerville – bagels at The Barkery, road trips to Labradoodle Lake, a nosy encounter with a prickly hedge, detours to The Poodle Pond and Spa for Paws, and shared strawberry-banana shakes at Yappy Yogurt. Love our adventures, even when my curiosity gets the best of me. Keeps life interesting! Spencerville, small town, big stories. š¾”
You know, mornings in Spencerville start like a dream; a picturesque postcard coming to life as the first sunbeam kisses the Cream Maltese Meadow, painting the town in hues of gold. As I trudged down the worn cobblestone path to the center of town, Tanner never left my side, his nose sniffling up my trouser leg, those floppy ears bouncing as he trotted along. Now, you need to understand that my Tanner isn’t one of those highfalutin city mutts. No, sir. This small-town pup has paws well grounded in good old Spencerville soil.
We’d begin our day with a stop at The Barkery. Tanner always had his doggy bagel, toast isnāt a strong feature to him whereas I guzzled the coffee like it’s my personal quest to prevent a worldwide caffeine shortage. From there, weād head out west, toward the Labradoodle Lake. The open country on any given day was liberating, you know, but itās on those road trips to Western Labradoodle Lake when we found our freedom. Tall trees lining up the road like soldiers on parade, the fresh aroma of dew-kissed pine needles, isnāt this what we live for?
But no road trip, no journey is complete without its misadventures. You’ve seen Tanner, right? A handsome fellow, an agrarian gent – heās got charm, alright. But you see that long nose of his, accompanied by insatiable curiosity? Well, it had him stick his snout into a prickly hedge once. It was like watching a one-man silent dog opera, complete with cringe-worthy prickly encounters and a mad indie-dog chase through town.
We’ve found ourselves on unexpected detours more times than I can count. Just on those encouraging words of “Let’s go Tanner, adventure awaits,” weād be looping around Poodle Pond or mysteriously popping into the back alley of Spa for Paws. Itās like our road trips have an inherent soul of their own, creating tales weād tell over and over again at Yappy Yogurt while downing a strawberry-banana shake. Yes, dogs can have them too! Or perhaps while flipping through works by canine authors at The Wagging Tail Bookstore; my god, do dog poets know their rhymes!
These road trips have been more than mere escapades, they’ve been experiences – the ones that cement our bond, which invigorate our shared tales with that extra spice of life. Some might brand it misadventure, but for us, it’s just another day in the life of a town-loving Rat Terrier and his cheese-obsessed caretaker, exploring the expanse of Spencerville’s beauty, one paw print at a time. Oh well, that’s our little road journal, and itās a trip we wouldn’t trade for all the cheese in the world!
The End.
