Chloe PawWord Story
“Hey Mom, basking on Beagle Beach, drooling over Dog-gone BBQ steaks, undefeated in tug-of-war games at Maltese Meadow. Not loving the rain (total mood killer) or swimming (icky!). Spenceville’s buzzing with buddies vying for Chow Down Chow Chow. PS. I kinda miss you, but we’re all good and dandy in canine heaven here. One day we will be together again, till then, steaks n’ stories, your not so little Chlobo.”
Well, my dear old girl Chloe, confiding in her usual spot at the edge of Beagle Beach, casting her wise eyes towards the inviting yellow sun, one eye squinting, the wrinkles folding over like the pages of a well-worn book, her gray strokes of wisdom adding character to her features. From here, you can spot the Dog-gone Good BBQ joint, conjuring delicious scents wafting toward Chloe like their sole purpose was to make her twitch her nose in anticipation, beckoning her with the sultry aroma of steaks, ah her favorite thing, perhaps second only to the love of her departed human mom.
But oh, let’s not let sadness dampen her spirit, not when there’s so much vibrancy in Spencerville. The imminent tug-of-war battle at Maltese Meadow with her playmates is a thing to pat-oneself-on-the-back-for, and gosh darn it, Chloe has never lost, not even once, and that’s truth told with a cherry on top. Can’t say much for bouts with her raw hides and socks, a resounding victory before even the battle has begun. Maltese Meadow gives way to a marvelous merriment instigating Chloe’s glee, topped only by, well, you guessed it, the steaks crisping to perfection at the BBQ joint.
Now, don’t be fooled by this seemingly idyllic picture, life’s got its peculiar quirks you see. Though Chloe’s love for her backyard reigns supreme, she harbors a silent antipathy for the cascading rain, each droplet sounding like a chorus of dread. And the mere thought of swimming, now that’s simply ghastly, washing away all the comforting smells of home, instead leaving her with a sterile eeriness that most certainly doesn’t belong to Spencerville.
The peaceful calm of the backyard is often disrupted by the crescendoing cacophony of her buddies vying for the tastiest offering from Chow Down Chow Chow. Anxiously waiting in clover-strewn tranquillity, they would soon drift towards The Wagging Tail Bookstore, each furry friend trailing behind with their favorite book firmly grasped.
And there it is, the experience of Spencerville, seen from Chloe’s eyes, felt by Chloe’s heart. A little peculiar, a little magical, and gloriously real, it’s a place where loneliness has forgotten its name and delight resides in every nook and cranny. Smack dab in the middle of it all is Chloe, our affably brave, incredibly loyal, and yes, steak-loving Pug, never missing a beat in the everyday symphony of Spencerville, the place where pets learn to live anew. Life moves differently here, and although we may all miss our human counterparts, we find some semblance of comfort in the knowledge that one day, yes one day, we will all be reunited. Ah, Spencerville, our intimate slice of heaven on this side of existence.
The End.
