Walter PawWord Story
“Hey Mom, made hero rescuing Pawsburg from husky-sized termites while battling my desire for a ripe tomato. Became David to a ten-ton Goliath, grudgingly chewed a doggie donut at Bow Wow instead of a steak dinner. Enjoyed oasis time at Fawn Pug Palace, ended day dreaming under the stars about tomorrow’s already brewing adventures. Thinking of trading RDFs (regular doggie food) for human grub. By the way, have you considered doggy daycare? -Walter Matthau”
Being an adventurer is no easy task, especially when your name is Walter, a Beagle with peculiar tastes and an endless supply of energy. Quite a life it is, you see, living in doggy wonderland’s equivalent of paradise, Pawsburg. Can’t say it’s always a stroll in the park though. Picture this, yesterday, Upper Black Bulldog Bay was overrun by termites, husky-sized ones too. The Howling Husky Hardware Store had run out of anti-termite sprays, can you imagine? Not a single spray. The nerve!
So, there I was, tennis ball in mouth, eyes darting every which way, ready to spring into action. Being one of the town’s top chasers, they expected me to fetch help. And fetch I did. Halfway across town I spotted a delicious, ripe tomato. ‘Oh bother,’ I thought between drools, ‘Red alert is more like it.’ I quite literally couldn’t resist. Until I remembered, my dear friends were at stake. I braced myself, gave the tomato one last longing look and galloped away.
You’d never believe it, a town made for dogs, entirely canine-controlled, and we’re dining at the Bow Wow Bistro! Nothing against its menu, except I’d trade it all for a bite of people food. ‘Fitz,’ the waiter cocker-spaniel, a poor chap who knows my preference all too well, served me doggie donuts. My mouth curling in distaste, I sighed, ‘not exactly a steak dinner,’ but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.
Why just the other day, I tangled with a tug rope down Husky Hill. A harmless game, I tell you, a harmless game. Except this rope was attached to a ten-ton weight. You wouldn’t believe the immovable force that one little Beagle could muster. It was like David and Goliath, only this time Goliath was a pile of weights, and David was a stubborn beagle with a competitive spirit.
Western Fawn Pug Palace! An oasis in the middle of the madness. I tell you, some days you’re the top dog, others you’re just chasing your own tail. I wish Happy Hounds Dog Walking would give us all a day pass. Maybe a lay down at Doggie Daycare would help, but I guess everyone is too busy undoing the apocalypse.
As the sun dipped low, I found myself back home in the backyard, looking over a town that brings out the best and worst of us. We might be walking pets in this crazy post-apocalyptic world, but by dog, we’re fighting, fetch-loving fiends with a flare for festivities. Pawsburg might have its troubles, but in the end, it’s home.
And tomorrow, we might have to wrangle some rogue rabbits or outwit wise old weimaraners, but tonight, under the stars, with a fresh breeze rustling my fur, I close my eyes and dream of tomorrow’s adventures. If you ever think the world’s gone to the dogs, come here. We’ll gladly share a doggy donut with you. But remember, people food is welcome too!
The End.
