They call my place Spencerville and it’s every bit the utopia they say it is. Shepherd Skyline to Golden Gate Gardens to Chihuahua Castle – it’s a proper canine realm. I’m Roxy, a Rottweiler/Chow Chow romp of shiny golden red.

Morning sun trickled through my fur as soon as I emerged from my cozy kennel. Sluiced down my Cheerios brekkie from Pupsicle Palace, laced with the creamy richness of peanut butter. Skipped Ardenne’s, the Pawsome Pet Pharmacy, had no business with bitter meds to further ruin my day. A rain shower had been forecasted and that just about does the trick, doesn’t it?

Sammy, my mate, joined me at the park and we indulged in our regular bout of tug of war, a Pull rope caught between our jaws. The sculpted greenery around me, the plush tranquility of my backyard, evoked a sense of belonging that no fanciful dog-park could.

You see, today was peculiar. Word of a heist was floating around. A banter at the Canine Couture Clothing turned into a clandestine meeting at the Chow Down Chow Chow. From Maltese to Mastiffs, from Beagles to Boxers – everyone proffered an opinion but Sammy and I had a plan.

The evening wore a cloak of mystery as shadows lengthened over Shoppy Paws, our local pet store. Simple enough a target, you’d say, but herein lied our challenge: The Kong Bone, the last in stock, and placed too high for paws to reach. My usual midnight fear of loud noises flickered through my thoughts but I bit back, adrenaline fueling my resolve.

Did the heist succeed? I hear you wonder, dear reader. A lady never reveals all; let’s just say neither Sammy nor I were disappointed when we returned to our humble abodes. And the tale of our Spencerville saga continues, through friendships forged, adventures undertaken, and, of course, the delicious crunch of a Kong Bone under moonlit tales!
