Sammy PawWord Story
“Hey Mom! Just another Tuesday. Roxy fancied herself a squirrel aerobics coach & got tangled in Mr. Whisker’s Oak. Me? I channeled some Beagle-Jack Russell muscles & managed to free her. Now basking in victory at South Poodle Pond, dreaming of Doggy Donuts. Signed, your heroic Sambo.”
There I was, smack in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday in Spencerville. I mean, ordinary for Spencerville – which is to say, dotted with the hum of crispy, bacon-flavored Donuts frying at Doggy Donuts, Boundless boulevard beckoning for an afternoon stroll, and the shine of a new chew toy in every fetching display at Fetch! Toys and Treats. And that’s when I heard it.
“Roxy!” The distress call was as crystal clear as the sounds of Bullmastiff Boardwalk at dusk. The note was so unique, you couldn’t mistake it, not even in the cacophony of playful barks at East Pug Palace. It was Sammy, Roxy’s brother, sending a canine SOS.
With a speed only rivalled by the advance of meatloafs at Fetching Deli, my paws hit the ground, moving in the direction of the call. A meatlover gotta look after his own, you know? Stopping for nothing, not even the near irresistible smells wafting from The Doggy Bagel Deli, I burst onto the scene in true Sammy fashion.
And there she was. Roxy, sweet Roxy, framed against Sammy’s leash tangled up in the branches of Mr Whisker’s infamous Great Oak. Scintilla-clear, this was no time for dilly-dallying… or even savoring the delightful aroma of steak grilling at The Fetching Deli nearby.
“Alright, madam,” I quipped, trying to lighten the mood despite the gravity of the situation, “What has my sis been doing this time, aerobics lessons for squirrels?” My tone a blend of comedian and hero, trying to infuse a sense of calm in the chaos.
“But what’s a hero without a boost of energy?” I pondered while my eyes wandered wistfully over at Spa for Paws. Oh, the magical wonders a dab of peanut butter can do on the morale!
With a quick prayer to the gods of The Pampered Pooch Salon, and a last longing look at the golden-cooked chicken nuggets at Doggy Donuts, I prepared to flex my brilliant blend of Beagle-Jack Russell muscle. I focused solely on Sammy’s leash, out of the corner of my eyes I could see the cold metal gleam from Dr. ExamineAlot’s vet clinic – a glaring reminder of all my canine fears.
With striking determination, I took the leap of faith – or as the humans would say, I leaped. And then, the Sweet Symphony of Success! The leash snapped open as Roxy cascaded into my waiting arms.
Things finally wrapped up with a sunny perch at South Poodle Pond, my tail wagging at the successful rescue, and daydreams of leftover Bagels and Donuts to celebrate our victory. Oh, the tale we’d have for the canine-curiosity filled eyes at East Pug Palace!
Just an average Tuesday in Spencerville – saving the day, one chewed-up leash at a time. I’m Sammy, your four-legged, peanut-butter loving, tug-o-war champion, and everyone’s favorite canine hero.
The End.
