PawWord Story
“Up with dawn, repelled a beagle’s alarm, scoffed brekkie (skipped peas), got a puppuccino, checked in at wellness center & took hero shots. Buttered up the salon queen then thwarted a band of malty rogues at the meadow. Celebrated at Doggy Donuts. Pawsburg is safe once more, all in a day’s work for yours truly, Whisk – your fiery-haired watchdog!”
The sun barely peeked over South Poodle Pond when I, Whisk, burned into life like a bright copper spectre. The day loomed large over Pawsburg and hell, it was time for another day in the fringes of domesticated disorder.
“Whisk!” I heard Dash, the beagle from next door, howling my name, alarm ringing through that lazy-half past-the-threshold-town like a bizarre revelry. With his big, pleading eyes, he relied on me—the Irish Setter hailed as a hero amongst our kind.
“Ah, Mornin’ to you, Dash,” I taunted as I took one last gander at my crimson reflection, subtle fire tying Blarney knots on the pond’s surface. Gentlemen, it seemed, our city of dogs needed saving again.
A quick detour took me to Pup-Peroni where I chowed down the succulent beef, opting out of the deceitful peas that Mildred was so fond shovel-feeding me. I chomped on crunchy carrot sticks, the only veggies worth their salt, savored my breakfast of canine champions, and then off we were to Paws-A-Latte for a quick shot of puppuccino. No day started without that bitter, sure-footed kick of energy.
“Whisk!” Mimi, the Persian, purred my name from atop the sign of The Pampered Pooch Salon, her post as Pawsburg’s reigning queen unquestionable. My pointy ears perked with interest as Dash and I skidded in front of her, the scent of looming mischief peppered through the morning air. Seemed like we had some serious pet avenging to do.
Dash, with his super-sniffer, picked up the scent of trouble wafting from Maltese Meadow. Trespassers usually, adventures always. We darted through the streets of Pawsburg, my copper coat blending into a shimmering afterimage against the dawn light. Our first stop? The Woof and Whisker Wellness Center for a quick check-in, the Best in Show Photography for some classic hero shots. A dog’s got to have some standards.
We rolled onto Spotted Red Beagle Beach for a breath of salty air and then bent our route towards Maltese Meadow, rubber meets the road, and the adventure finally met its heroes. What lay there were rogues, canine criminals that lurked in the shadows, threatening the peace of our sun-kissed town.
The battle was a blur, all teeth and tails and squeaky toys, and in the end, poor fools never stood a chance. They didn’t know they were up against the Pet Avengers of Pawsburg, with me, their fiery-haired, thunderous Irish setter leading the charge.
With the day saved, I, Whisk, copper-coated hero, trotted off towards a well-deserved plate of Doggy Donuts, Dash and Mimi in tow. As the sun painted Pawsburg in golden hues, we reveled in our victory, our bellies full and hearts content. Come hell or high water, the Pet Avengers would be there, always ready for a new day, new adventures, and chances to protect our beloved home, Pawsburg.
The End.
