Larkin PawWord Story
“Hey Fam, Living it up in Spencerville! Beagle Beach is a blast, K9 Kebabs are the bomb, minus the lettuce – YUCK! Sadie & I are local fashion icons. Still, miss mom’s cuddles & Pawpal’s playtime. Love from the fanciest bulldog in town, Larkinator.”
The beauty of Spencerville, as I discovered, was irresistible, enough to make you wonder if you’d ever leave – if you had the choice, of course. Even as a world-renowned cynic, I’d fallen quite hard for the place. And what’s not to like? The town was a symphony of perfectly sculpted buildings, spilled across hilly terrains where pets ran about merrily.
My Larkin, the stubborn English bulldog with an independent spirit that could dwarf any self-claiming philosopher and the addition of Alpacia skin that turned heads around, found her new life in this doggy metropolis quite beguiling. She’d waddled her way around Beagle Beach, determined to explore every nook and cranny.
Larkin who, even in dog years, was a wise old soul, gravitated towards her favorite pastime right away—none other than a rip-roaring game of tug-of-war followed by sunbathing. A hefty chunk of her Spencervillian afternoons were spent in wild escapades with her loyal companion; Sadie, the sprightly black schnauzer.
Now, in Spencerville, Larkin’s favorite bacon grease was replaced with delectable offerings from K9 Kebabs and Bow Wow Bistro, where she discovered a profound love for something fancier than her good old kibble. Although, the lettuce situation remained unchanged. The dog just couldn’t stomach it. I suppose no town, no matter how perfect, could change our deeply ingrained likes and dislikes.
Her cousin, Sadie was quite the fashionista who’d dragged Larkin into all the Spencerville pet stores including Pet Partners Pet Supplies and The Pawfect Training Center. Together, they became the best-dressed canine pair at Silver Siberian Summit or anyplace else they would venture. An inseparable bond was evident in their matching ensembles, it was just, well, uncanny and adorable.
Oh, and the blue bird stuffy? It found a prized spot on Larkin at Fawn Pug Palace, clutched dearly next to her comforting blankey, a gentle reminder of her Aunt Jenny. Complete with a backyard-like sanctuary, Larkin found peace in her new home, away from the vacuum’s menacing roar and the nerve-wracking crashes.
Spencerville, with its myriad adventures, offered a different kind of joy, a comfort that eased the longing, making the waiting bearable. Yet, every time Larkin fell asleep, she dreamt of reunions—of cuddles and quality time with her mom and Pawpal. Those, irreplaceable, simpler times. Yes, she did miss them dearly. Believe it or not, it was the only place Larkin would ever trade Spencerville for – Home. But that’s another story for another day, perhaps.
The End.
