Wrigley PawWord Story
“Hey mom, crossed the rainbow bridge and landed in Spencervile! Infinite mischief, friends, & food straight out of dog dreams. Rain & bath still a bummer but hey, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, right? Life is a wagging tail here, meet you someday, drooling with love. – Wrigley Roo”
I crossed the rainbow bridge today. It wasn’t hard to find, it being plastered all over the internet. ‘An ethereal locality,’ ‘A place for all the good boy and good girls,’ the humans would say whenever they’d kiss their pets one last time.
Spencerville, they called it, a place where every kittie and pup go, away from the human world, and so there I was. A Grand town with more mischief to be made than a mixed breed like me could only dream of. Gleaming with streets like Maltese Meadow and Red Beagle beach. And Shops, you ask? Well they had ‘The Furry Friends Art Gallery’ and ‘The Snooty Snout Boutique.’ And forget about the food, they even have places like K9 Kebabs and Pup-Tizers!
Life here was good, really, good you know. The town was filled with places to loaf around – warmed sun decks, cozy spots under trees, et al. There was no limit on how much fun you could squeeze in one day, and trust me, I made it my purpose to test the limits of that theory.
But nothing beat the joy of dining in this place. I didn’t have to settle for boring old green beans made for human consumption, but my choice! The stickiness of peanut butter, the crunch of popcorn, the enticing undertone of a good pizza slice, and even eggs, cooked just the way I liked them, soft with tender loving care.
There were plenty of friends to go around too, this new crew of mine, darling fur-nuggets all. Chenice, Smokey, Maddie, Camden, Glennie, Rusty, and Leia. Imagine that, a whole squadron of canines, ready to seize the day or even a squeaking yellow duck if need be.
Yes, life was good in Spencerville, save for a few things. Rain for instance, it literally rained on our parade, forcing me to retreat indoors, away from the fun. And my dislike for baths followed me here. Same for those noisy, scary thunderstorms. Reminding me that you can take a dog out of his old habits, but you can’t get rid of the habits of the old dog.
But don’t take my word for it, no really don’t. Raconteur that I was, perhaps truth got a little twisted around in the telling. But hey, what’s a tale without a bit of flavour, sans a tad bit of exaggeration.
But let me tell you this, Wrigley’s words are true when I say my heart and my tail beat in rhythm for this town. The friends, the fun and frolic, the food, true heaven it is. I’ll be waiting here, soaking up the sun, belly full, and heart content until we love again, my dear human friends. Because as all of us here at Spencerville believe, we part only to meet again.
The End.
