Clovis PawWord Story
“Hey Ma, woke up as Clovis in Spencerville, legendary land of the reincarnated pets. Savoring simple pleasures like chewing on my bone, avoiding too much commotion. Bonded with bulldog Gilbert and lively sister Zelda. Sunsets, food aromas, and the promise of reuniting with humans – quite the canine paradise! Woof woof, Clovie.”
At the farthest ridge of daybreak, rising beyond the Golden Retriever River and tilting over Lower Silver Siberian Summit, I found myself awakening in the legendary Spencerville, where every hound, feline and rodent have the privilege of reincarnation. I expected to be a collie or a blue-eyed Siamese, but it was no surprise to come back into this world as Clovis, an English Bulldog with a rugged brindle coat.
The texture of this new life was rich, interwoven with the vie de bohème of Spencerville – the verdant parks, the halcyon backyards, and the far buzz of Pupperoni Pizza where the wind carried the aroma of feast and companionship. Yet, the spirit of Spencerville wasn’t confined to the living, breathing, barking, and wagging parts of this town, it was stretched and etched into the nether regions of one’s understanding.
Clovis has always walked the earth with a paradox – fiercely loyal but not impressed by his own canines, tepid adventure rising out of humble quirks. The morning found me, as Clovis, spreading out on the sun-kissed patio, feeling the warmth of the sun seeping into my brindle coat. My ever so faithful, white, stuffed bone lying cosily by my side. I chewed it, tugged at it but mostly I suckled – a divine, tranquil ride to the innocent days when I was but a furball of whimpering affection.
But pleasure for a creature like Clovis encapsulates more than just the taste of his large bone. We English Bulldogs live for the thrill of the chase, the unstated excitement of a car ride or the authentic joy of a good old walk in the park. Yet, give us a place with too much commotion and we curl back into our shell. A world full of ear cleaning, loud noises, rain or a scurry of unknown dogs – and we refuse to take it.
My companion in this mayhem was a snack-loving bulldog named Gilbert. A blood brother of different tastes, he found it hard to acquire my peculiar fondness for simple pleasures. But his skepticism only balanced our companionship. And to complete our merry trio, we had Zelda, my tri-color sister, a Boundary Springer in her past life – her energy truly reflected in her spirit.
Yours truly found the morning sun fading away, and the cool evening breeze swept across Spencerville. As I sat by the window, gazing at the twilight over Choco Chihuahua Castle, with fantasies of sumptuous wet food drifting from The Bone Appetit and Furrific Fried Chicken permeating the air, I remembered the words I had kit and barked: “One day, we’d be united with our humans.”
But until that day arrives, life here, in Spencerville, as Clovis, the English Bulldog, brimming with the essence of an eternal day, is an adventure in itself. It’s strange, I thought, how such a simple relic to remember departed pets could hold such beauty, such magic, such life. And as the sun set, turning everything into a silhouette, I knew this place was something else. A paradise beyond our wildest dreams yet, every bit believable, right here, amidst us, in whalebone reality. It’s rather supernatural, my dear friend, unlike anything we ever sniffed or licked back on earth.
The End.
