Nelson PawWord Story
“Hey Dad, had a wild night. Roamed Pawsburg, played tug at the beach, hit up ‘All you can eat Night’ at Whiskers and Wings. Scooped a new Kong toy too. Bummer part is, bath and vet check-up awaits. Btw, can’t wait to show Christine my new toy! Signed- your mischievous Leviathan, Nelson”
As dawn breaks and the humans tuck themselves away in sleep’s embrace, qualified mischief is afoot in Pawsburg. The town secret to all but pets, and for tonight’s drama, our leading man spots a blue and brown eyed leviathan, Nelson, the town’s esteemed English Bulldog.
No sooner than his owners’ car faded away into the horizon did I catch that unmistakeably mischievous glint in Nelson’s blue eye. He shot me a familiar grin, a distinct mixture of glee and valor unique to our clandestine adventurer.
“Alright, Zach, old mate,” he beckoned with his familiar chortling bark, “Are you up for a rumpus?”
Off in the distance, the Whiskers and Wings glistened with an enticingly bright sign – ‘All you can eat Night’ it proudly boasted. Nelson’s drool unabashedly hit the ground at the very thought of his beloved succulent beef. Our united goal was clear. Our united path – not quite.
“Full steam ahead to the beach first, me hearty!” Nelson thundered out, paw-pointing to the shimmering waters of Brindle Brown Boxer Beach. His plan, I surmised, was to build an appetite worthy of a king. An eventful, waist-deep game of tug-of-war later, wet from nose to tail wag but satisfied beyond measure, we set off to conquer hunger at Whiskers and Wings.
Having indulged to our hearts’ desires, our tour de Pawsburg continued. Sideways glances from Choco Chihuahua Castle met us at every turn as we roved towards the Fawn Pug Palace. Strolling through Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Store, Nelson made a quick detour to sniff the newest version of Kong toys. Oh, how his trembling enthusiasm could not be concealed! With a new toy gripped tight in his whimsically strong jaws, the glow in his eyes was enough to outshine any Pawsburg neon sign.
Our Pawsburg winded down. The nocturnal symphony of Sniff ‘n’ Snack and the Chow Hound Café had begun to abate, giving way to quieter hushes and clandestine whispers. “Home time, already?” Nelson muttered, his morale visibly dipping a tinge. Nelson, my mate, wasn’t a big fan of baths, and I knew he dreaded the inevitable tub ritual awaiting him back home.
“Soon, Nelson, but remember, first up is your routine check tomorrow at Woof and Whisker Wellness Center. Christine’s been looking forward to seeing her favorite hearty lad as much as you’ve been longing to show off your new Kong toy,” I reminded him, trying to lift his spirits.
Pawsburg, our secret haven, our playground without limits. Nothing compared to the adventures we’d live and defend together with our furry league, maintaining a balance between pet mischief and pet fun. In the heart and soul of it all was Nelson, the blue and brown eyed one.
The End.
