Wrigley PawWord Story
“Hey Mom, just living my best life here, painting the town with fun, hanging at the Bark Shak, eating Pupperoni Pizza – NO green beans! Still battling the hose and dodging rain showers. The kingdom’s safe with me and my Wise Woofs. Catch ya later, snuggles from your Marmaduke.”
No one can ever forget Wrigley, you know him, right? A unique soul, an unrivalled charm, and a set of big, warm eyes that held an ocean of compassion. Bestowed upon Spencerville by some capricious destiny’s whim, he brought with him an avalanche of antics and an energy that was beyond infectious.
Live in Spencerville long enough, and you’re bound to run into Wrigley at his favorite hangout spot, the Bark Shak. An avatar of joy, you’d often see him splayed out on the deck with his tongue hanging out, basking in the sunlight. His leisurely expression of bliss made him the town’s sweetheart. He had a way, you know, to tempt even the most stone-hearted cynics into risking a touch of that soft coat.
To me, Wrigley was an artist, and fun was his palette. The Fawn Pug Palace, East Bulldog Bay, and Fawn Cream Maltese Meadow knew his imprints too well. The Woofy Bakery’s delightful aromas always had him drooling, and Pupperoni Pizza was his favourite food indulgence from amongst the lot. Well, except for green beans – even hinting at green beans saw him crinkling up his nose and making a run for it, and we folks loved to tease him with that, of course!
His days were full of adventure and laughter, and like all action heroes, he had his kryptonite – loud noises and water. I still remember, he’d do anything to get away from a bath or rain; he despised them both like the plague.
His turmoil with water, though, was what made him Wrigley. Bearing the heart of a warrior, he’d always protect his kingdom from the hose during the water combat. Yes, it frazzled his calm demeanor and left him with dampened spirits, but like an audacious knight, he’d not hold back even a bit. Afterall, he had his kingdom to guard.
And his kingdom lay with Chenice, Smokey, Maddie, Camden, Glennie, Rusty, and Leia – they were his crew, his loyal mates. Despite our occasional tease, we loved him dearly. Bath time hiccups or wartime trims, he was our Wrigley, and we were his humans.
Even as he bestowed upon us his invaluable loyalty, we kept him close to our hearts, fuelling his life with unwavering love and fervor. Every moment spent with him was special. With every wag of that bushy tail, every playful jump, and every mischievous grin, he etched himself more firmly into the fabric of Spencerville, completing our little paradise.
The End.
