Nelson PawWord Story
“Dad, life’s ruff in post-apocalyptic Pawsburg! Avoided the soapy horror scene, snubbed canine couture for rolling in grass, and braved the epic bagel hunt. Still, the best part is outsmarting the drama with Nelson – my trusty sidekick! Adventures and beef treats served daily, wish you were here! P.S. Don’t panic, we’re just playing apocalypse. 🐾 -Nelson’s partner in crime.”
Well then, you must know about Nelson – yes, Nelson the English Bulldog. He’s a sight to behold, exuding an air of chimeric pretense, where playful charm and stoic defiance coalesce. You’d spot him in Pawsburg, quite the character, with his gaze of a mismatched blue and a peculiar brown, a sight that quirkily sets one off kilter, yet pulls you into fascination.
On a typical day with the regular will-the-sun-rise-or-not sort of weather, Nelson and I set out on one of our out-of-town explorations. A standard trip involving vehicles, harnesses, and the wondrous collection of shoe-based contraptions Nelson would find himself fixated with.
The destination for our escape from the usual norms of Pawsburg – the Southern Golden Retriever River. Nestled between Pug Palace and the surprisingly un-sandy Yellow Tan Dalmatian Desert. Whilst others may find the idea of sneaking off to Pawsburg at the break of dawn nonsensical, for Nelson and I, it was akin to a secret hobby, an unspoken escapade we’d both relish.
Arriving at the river, a zestful Nelson managed the leash off and plunged forth into the freshness of the morning. His joy was infectious, you’d simply forget about the vast empty expanse around us and the oddly quiet Pawsburg. After his refreshing frolic, we decided to stop at The Doggy Bagel Deli. The scent enveloping us tempted our palettes, but our tastebuds were primarily hunting for beef.
After socializing amidst our Canine counterparts – some draped in lively outfits from Canine Couture Clothing, others oscillating between Doggy Donuts and The Barking Boutique stalls, purchasing a variety of delectable wares – I noticed Nelson’s disdain for bathing being stirred up. Some bright spark had initiated a soap-war. Albeit the local dogs seemed comfortable soaking, Nelson, however, was praying for an apocalypse to evade this wash.
Fights over food and bandanas occurred frequently within the Pawsburg society of doghood. Recently, rumors had been spreading about the prophesized “Walking Pets” disease – a horrifying contagion that afflicted dogs who were deprived of their alone time. The telltale signs, Nelson pointed out, were the frantic movements and lack of escape routes from the doggy bathhouse. It all seemed uncanny and eerily similar to ‘The Walking Dead.’ One couldn’t help but wonder about the chaotic state of Pawsburg and the chaos that ensued.
In this post-apocalyptic world, a dog’s worst fears were magnified. Baths become unbearable, trips to Fetch! Toys and Treats seem like an uphill battle in the desert. However, amidst all this, Nelson, although disdaining the idea of a bath, retained his primary love for the mountains, the river, and the peace of solitude.
Inadvertently, amidst the battles of baths and bandannas, we found our solace, and some really wonderful bagels. For Nelson, I believe, the Apocalypse wasn’t all bad. There were still ice creams to be had and grassy fields to roll around on. As for me, enjoying a beef-filled treat, while contemplating the virtues of canine philosophy with Nelson, I couldn’t help but agree. The world might be fraught with chaos and uncertainties, but at the end of the day, someplace like Pawsburg, with Nelson at my side, it was a mad dog’s world indeed.
And, if you ask me, would we do it again? Oh, absolutely, because what could be more interesting than sneaking off to a dog’s world post-apocalypse, with a Nelson beside you, chasing adventure and wonderfully peculiar anecdotes.
The End.
