Holly PawWord Story
“Hey Dad, just saved Husky Hill from cat gang today using my smart brain, tuna sandwiches, and fierce friends. Exciting day, but really missed your cuddles. Home is where my booly heart truly resides. PS: Got a victory treat for us — PB & bone, yum! -Little slice of Angel pie 🐾”
“Holly, adventure is barking, you should be too!”
Those are the first words I hear escaping the jaws of Uncle Ron as I creak open my sleepy eyes, shrugging away the dreams of the juicy steak I was about to devour. A swift crunch of fresh Golden Gate Garden leaves beneath my thick paws, and I’m off into the heart of Pawsburg, past the enticing scents wafting from Tail Wagger’s diner, which would normally make my tail thump hard against the ground. But adventure was calling, and Uncle Ron’s call was one you never left unanswered.
You see, today was no ordinary day in Pawsburg. There was trouble brewing over at Husky Hill. The dogs’ favourite playground was under threat from a gang of obstinate felines and it was time for us dogs to assemble, to fight, to protect.
In this pet Avengers saga, I, Holly, emerged as the resident brains of the outfit. You don’t often hear about an English bulldog outsmarting Siamese cats, but it’s true, as much as I hate to get my paws dirty. As lovable Uncle Geoff and lovely Aunt Sue lined up beside me, wearing faces as fierce as any Avengers’ character, my heart swelled with a sense of purpose no bone stuffed with peanut butter could ever bestow.
I pawed over to The Pawfect Training Center, formulating a genius plan along the way, my brain cells dancing around the obscured corners of my nutritional prowess. The cats, they adored fish. Ah, the power of offering a peace sandwich! As the plot thickened, I reminisced about the quiet days in my backyard, missing my comforting snuggles, but duty called.
I, umbrella-ed under the soft glow of the Paws On The Grill’s lamppost, stood before the ferals, their ice blue eyes drilling into mine. “Morsel of tuna, in exchange of Husky Hill?” I put forth, a tray of tempting tuna sandwiches from Pawsome Pancakes in my wake.
Sneers turned into approving nods, as they shuffled around with uncertain caution. Sure, I loathed the sight of baths and delivery persons, but the sight of Husky Hill, once the cats retreated, brought a toothy grin on my face and a victorious bark from Uncle Ron.
Gosh, a day in Pawsburg! Exciting, isn’t it? As I padded back, with a quick stop at the Dapper Dog Salon to erase traces of my battlefield feats, a palatable aroma engulfed my senses. It was the earthy smell of my loved ones and, as I’d anticipated, my untouched bone kneaded with peanut butter.
Ah, adventures were thrilling and victories liberating, but at the end of the day, as I plopped down onto my cushion, reeling in the sugary praise of Aunt Sue, Uncle Geoff, and Uncle Ron, I realized that Pawsburg, as much of an exciting thrill it was, could never replace the love of home, where a stubborn Bulldog’s heart truly resided. The End.
The End.
