Cj PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
Just a quick update – Cj’s living it up in Spencerville! He’s claimed the local Pup-Cakes spot as his favorite hangout, shown off some serious moves in the Round Robin ball games, and turned into the town’s favorite furball. Rainy days do get him down, and crowded dog parks aren’t his thing, but nothing a few stuffies (‘babies’ as we call them) and some jerky treats can’t fix. Lonely dog he’s not, this ball of eccentricity and joy – he’s now the Spencerville Legend! Talk soon.
Bubbie
I remember when Cj first set paw in Spencerville. There he was, all 17 pounds of him, defiant underbite and short legs underscoring his distinctive heritage of Pekingese, Jack Russell, and Chihuahua. Always the one for idyllic quiet instead of the tumult of city bustle and mountain climbing, he was set up for the life of an absolute legend here, I’m telling you.
Ah, the first time we went to Pup-Cakes, that place, oh, how he adored the place! Cj, with his aversion to yogurt, found himself a new favorite in jerky. If you saw the little guy eating, woah! You’d think there had been some kind of treat famine he was trying to recover from.
But what about sports, you ask? Well, amidst the pristine exotic locales of Brown Boxer Beach and Husky Hill, our introduction to the Round Robin ball chases began. It was like he’d been training all his life for this! Forget mountain adventures, he was meant to snag flying balls out of the sky and dart around a grassy field.
“Check out Cj selling ’em dummies, a two-left-legged dancer on an uninhibited streak,” Phil, the local commentator in Doggy Division I, boomed from the sidelines. No fan of parks or swimming, but man, could this furry Viking weave his way through the craziness of a bunch of fanatically driven canines, fixated on that goofy, bouncing ball.
Save for one snag though, the dreaded moment of defeat – the rain. Imagine you’re limbering up for the game of your life and suddenly, waterworks! Sure, Cj’s pip of a personality would deflate faster than a punctured blimp.
I still recall those wet, gloomy afternoons, Cj huddled behind me, eyes glued onto the relentless downpour as I eased him into the warm comfort of my old fur-lined coat. “Now, now buddy,” I’d say, “it’s just a little rain, you’ll have your grassy playground back tomorrow.”
His eyes soaked up every word even though I could see the longing for the sport behind them. But a rainy day meant a well-deserved rest, a trip to the Fetching Deli, and of course, back to his beloved ‘babies,’ his stuffed toys.
Loneliness, that’s the real enemy though. Cj, the little furball he is, hates being left alone. No more so than in a dog park – all those unfamiliar faces and foreign sniffing noses, not exactly his cup of tea.
So you see, the Spencerville Legend is not just about coexisting with the loss. It’s about appreciating the life, sporty, jovial, and eccentric, of our furry compadres. And as for Cj, dear reader, smile now, because when you meet him, his infectious spirit won’t allow you to do anything else.
The End.
