Roberto Gordon Gau – we called him Gordon PawWord Story
Hey, this is your Sweet Pea here, just popped out of the doggie palace to give you a quick bark. Remember how I used to cower at the sight of vacuums? Well, now I’m the wizened beagle of Spencerville, holding court at Kibble Cuisine; even Lexi and Cede bow to my commands. Getting older isn’t so ruff after all. Learn, grow, and remember, it’s not just about the games we play, but the packs we form. Keep chasing your tail and enjoying life’s adventures. Belly rubs welcomed! Sweet Pea out.
So there I was, my snout buried in my chicken liver dinner at Kibble Cuisine, when I heard it – that distinctive jingle that could only mean one thing. Lexi and Cede, the Basset Hound duo, clattering in through the glass doors. You’d do well not to mess with those two; they play it cool but wouldn’t flinch to chase a squirrel up a rootless tree.
“No Gordon, we revert back to the topic. Do you remember how you used to be petrified at the hum of a vacuum?” Lexi asked with a mischievous smile. You bet I remembered.
My mind cast back to those days, the utter dread that sound evoked. But time has a funny way of shaping things. I was older now, lived through tens of doggie years. My face, once entirely brown, now kissed with an elegant white overcoat. It was more than just color and spots, it was wisdom.
“Yeah, I recall, I’m eternally grateful to Spencerville for having no vacuum zones. But today,” I said, nodding toward the proud sun hanging above, “Do notice my uncanny ability to lounge under this sun while you youngsters pant for an iced Paws-A-Latte.”
The joke got a collective chuckle. I’ve always had the knack for lightening the mood. And if you think that’s impressive, you ought to see me skillfully navigate through my culinary delights. My name is back to being something of a household name around these parts since I discovered the joy of bananas and chicken liver. But strawberries? Not a whisker twitches for those things.
Next stop was the Doggy Depot. I saw my reflection in a newly polished mirror. An enigma personified, even to me; stubborn yet serene. My tricolored vest now a badge of honor among Spencerville elite. I was king here.
“Remember how you used to play with the pink hedgehog, and then suddenly left it?” Cede inquired with a knowing nod. I did, not all parts of youth were worth holding onto. That pink hedgehog was once my world. Now, it sat in the corner, a monument to days of youthful sniffs and chases.
“Can’t play forever now, can we?” I countered, nudging Cede, “Our time in Spencerville isn’t about the games we play; It’s about the bonds we form. Look at us – we’re a pack, aren’t we?”
There was agreement all around. I wasn’t just Gordon, the Beagle from Spencerville anymore. I was becoming the Beagle of Spencerville. The sun set on another day, as I felt myself grow beyond just age. As I navigated the world, I realized that growing up wasn’t about letting go of the past, but about embracing the adventures that lay ahead.
The End.
