Lucy PawWord Story

Hey Mom, had a dog-gone crazy day! Mr. Doberman greeted me at the Bow Wow Bistro where I met Bella. Heard a whimper, turned out it was Blue scared under an apple tree. Me & Bella helped her. Ended the day at the beach. Spencerville’s never dull for us – Adventure is just a bark away! – Lulu 🐾
There I was, my ears high with alertness, the orange pull-toy in my jaw. I started my usual day in Spencerville at the Bow Wow Bistro, built against the fence of White Westie Woods.
Mr. Doberman, the mustached Don behind the counter, greeted me, “Lucy, are you hustling for another round of tug-of-war?” He chuckled, flashing his golden incisors. I humoured him with a paw-shake, lounging in my usual spot near the fireplace. I know, it’s a cliché, dogs and fireplaces, but why buck a good thing?
Soon Bella came wagging, that droopy-eyed Labrador. We’ve seen our fair share of doggie drama at the Western Husky Hill, and shared many a macaroni bowl here. Together, we braved the hustle and bustle of The Doggy Depot, negotiated with Mr. Bulldog over the fetching toys and even dared to step near The Snooty Snout Boutique. Well… Bella steps. I pause at the door – a place too posh for a practical English bulldog like me.
As we were sharing our stories and munching on the pasta, a hearty meal, paid for by our owners, my sensitive ears caught the faintest whimper. I nodded at Bella, her tail stiffened in agreement – yes, there was someone in distress. We ran towards the sound, our stubby legs carrying us past Whiskers and Wings and Paws-A-Latte.
The sight greeted us wasn’t a familiar one. A young St Bernard, huddled under an apple tree on the outskirts of town, whimpering in misery. “Blue,” I sighed, recognizing the familiar bristle of fur. My sister. Blue, avoiding apples like a cat avoids water, had inadvertently found herself under an apple tree. The irony didn’t escape me.
Bella and I approached gingerly, always despising the sour taste and smell of apples. But we had to help Blue. We might dream together of Spotted Red Beagle Beach, but confronting a tree full of apples, now that was a nightmare.
Bella growled, the low, warning kind. The poor soul shook harder, her eyes begging for us to help. Well, I’m a bulldog. And we bulldogs may be stubborn, but we’re brave as they come. The tree, the apples, they be damned.
I wagged my tail, skidding to a halt in front of Blue. She lowered her whimper, puzzled eyes questioning me. Raising my paw, I gave her an encouraging nudge, helping her step away from the den of apples. She needed it. Perhaps we all do at some point. A nudge, the courage to take the first step towards overcoming our fears.
Later that day, I lounged on the coast of the Spotted Red Beagle Beach, the serene sunset painting the sky, a triumphant smile played across my wrinkled face. The sound of the splashing waves drowned the hum of the bustling Spencerville, my orange tug toy by my side.
Behind me, Blue and Bella played, their laughter echoing across the town. As I watched them, I knew this wasn’t any ordinary day in Spencerville. And this was no ordinary life. This was mine, and it was blissfully, wonderfully extraordinary.
The End.
