Sallie PawWord Story
“Barking news, Rex! Turns out your Mississippian Mammoth Replica isn’t extinct after all. Sniffed a green beans trail right to Muffie in a scene straight out of Bagel-gate. Remember: in Pawsburg, no bone goes unfound, especially not on my watch. – SuperSniffer Sallie”
Every spaniel has her day, as they say in Pawsburg. Today, it was Sallie’s. You have probably heard of that vibrant English Cocker Spaniel. No? Let me enlighten you. Sallie was on her regular sniff-around in Pawsburg park, Mr. Quackers conveniently lodged in her mouth and that cinnamon-brown fur of hers flitting around in the breeze, belting out an aria of delightful anomalies.
Just the other night, Rex, a gruff Rottweiler, had raised a tumult in Kibble Cuisine, complaining about missing his favorite bone, The Mississippian Mammoth Replica. Now, the loss of any dear object, especially something of a culinary persuasion, can be a serious affair for a dog. Rex’s outcry proposed the underlying mystery of the evening, which naturally dropped right at the doorstep of our lovely Sallie.
Under the cool shade of a pawpaw tree, Sallie listened to Rex’s tale of anguish, her ever-patient gaze on him, while she battled internally with a laugh at Rex’s amateur pet detective antics. That said, the puzzle was compelling; an entire bone, the Mississippian no less, doesn’t just vanish in the air. A few sniffs at the site of the tragedy and Sallie caught an overwhelming whiff of… green beans? The irony of it made Sallie chuckle, evoking a raised eyebrow from Rex.
From Kibble Cuisine, her nose trailed to The Doggy Bagel Deli. There, amidst the hubbub and the wafting smell of fresh bagels, was Muffie, attempting an ill-concealed grin, surrounded by a glorious disorder of bagel crumbs and, oh dear, concealed green beans.
Beneath the table, lodged in the plush purple rug, Sallie spotted the smallest hint of a bone speck. Gently retrieving it with her expert paws, she presented it triumphantly to the bewildered Rex. “Mississippian Mammoth Replica, eh?” Sallie winked at Muffie, taking a gentle swipe at some of the green beans, “I do say, Muffie, you might want to improve your sleight of paw.”
With Rex’s gratitude, some giggles and a lot more disbelief echoing around the Deli, she trotted back towards the park, her tail wagging jovially in triumph. In the city of Pawsburg, where the adventurous horizon peddles wonders anew, the spaniel played Sherlock to a darned decent Watson, all within the beautiful mess of hide-n-seek that life maneuvered lovingly unabashed. Well, boiled green beans don’t lie, do they now?
The End.
