Spike PawWord Story
Hey there! This is Spike, the snuggliest pitbull lending a paw around Pawsburg town. It ain’t easy being the star & the friend everyone needs, but this marshmallow heart always finds a way. Irony is, amidst all the fun and bickers at Bark Burgers, love sneaked up on our dear friend Scout. No worries though, I’m on it – they always say love is a wagging tail, and who better than a pitbull to bring that wag back! Love, Spike the Softie.
There I was, lounging in the Lower Golden Gate Gardens, my sleek, charcoal-grey coat soaking up Pawsburg’s golden afternoon sunlight. Spike, they call me- the snuggest pitbull in town. But, heh, don’t be fooled by my robust frame. Underneath it, I tell ya, is a heart soft as marshmallows.
“Hoy, Spike!” A familiar gravelly voice called out and I craned my neck in anticipation. Fido, my bulldog pal, his rotund figure bouncing with glee, comes trotting along with Scout, the dainty golden retriever, licking an afternoon Doggy Donut treat.
“Whew! What a pair! A bulldog and…a retriever, what a riot!” I chuckled. Comical obstacles? That’s breakfast for us. But despite our bickering, yapping, chasing, and squabbling, we found a rhythm of friendship that, I suppose, folks in the human world call – love!
One evening, under the purple hues of Pawsburg sunset, at our regular corner in Bark Burgers, Fido was hyper as usual, while Scout, poor girl, quietly nursed a broken heart. Our favorite hangout seemed gloomy that day. My fellow canines too busy munching down those juicy burgers were oblivious to the brewing storm.
Between sharing chuckles, I noticed Scout, her golden eyes seemed distantly sad. “Spike,” she started, voice quivering, “Max, the Labrador I liked…he… he went chasing poodles from South Siberian Summit.” I felt a sharp drag at my heartstrings. Now I understood her silence.
As a backdrop, a million stars twinkled and the soft gurgle of Bulldog Bay serenaded the quiet evening. Life in Pawsburg suddenly felt dramatically sad. The platter of chicken delights in front of me didn’t seem exciting anymore. I saw Scout’s quivering chin and put my paw on hers. Fido, scratching his butt against a pole, looked on cluelessly.
“Spike…I…” she stammered but I interrupted, “Scout, our friendship is more like a romantic comedy. You and Max were like oil and water. He’s chasing poodles, while your heart is here with Ducky…and us!” We giggled. Maybe it wasn’t fully mending but certainly, it stitched up the tiny cracks appearing in our exceptional camaraderie.
I decided then and there to play Cupid. After all, who better than a pitbull with a soft heart and a no-nonsense approach to rewrite our dear Scout’s romantic fate?
And thus began new adventures, misadventures, comic twists, and rallying spirits in quaint Pawsburg. Romance might have its hurdles but in the end, every dog will have its day…and it was about time our Scout had her same, and perhaps, something more.
The End.
