Ranger PawWord Story
Hey there, it’s The Top Dog, Ranger speaking. You know the ol’ saying, “every dog has his day”? Well, I’m having mine, each day, in this madcap town of Pawsburg. Unleashing my charm on Missy, warming up to her hankering for Airedale Ale, and combining love with our shared taste for Fur Tacos. Sure, there are hurdles and hiccups, but in every tail wag and book sniff, we find our own little paradise. Just a hint of Pupsicle Palace and a dash of Shepherd Skyline; it’s a dog’s life, and I’m loving my bark in it. Stay paw-some, – Ranger, the Romance Rascal!
Well now, you’d think you knew ol’ Ranger, wouldn’t you? Uh-uh. No way do you know the half of it. So go on, pull up a chair, order yourself a Fur Taco, and let me tell you a tale.
You probably know that Pawsburg ain’t just any town. Go out by Brindle Brown Boxer Beach and look ‘cross the water. That’s Shepherd Skyline, gleaming like a dog bone under the moon. I remember one time when me and Ranger decided to see who could reach the top first. Old Ranger might be a heavyweight, but when it comes to climbing, he’s as light as a Bichon.
One night, while the two-leggers were tucked in their beds dreaming of fetch, Ranger and I took off for a bit of Pawsburg nightlife. We roamed the sable streets where the scent of adventure was as rampant as the tantalizing aroma wafting from Pupsicle Palace. We had already sampled the gourmet offerings at Fur Tacos where we stuffed our faces with three trays worth of delectable chicken, totally oblivious to the envious onlookers.
As we sauntered towards The Barking Boutique, Ranger’s eyes fell on her. Missy – a svelte Border Terrier just as spirited and audacious as my friend. She was comfortably ensconced at an open-air corner table of The Canine Cafe, her nose buried deep into a book from The Wagging Tail Bookstore.
Now Ranger, he’s got a giddy soft spot for terriers. Can turn from rascal to royal prince faster than you can say ‘Pawsburg’. Mind you, Missy was not just any terrier, and Ranger was head-over-paws at his first sniff. I tell you, watching them together was like watching two pups belly side up, feet in the air, wave around in pure ecstasy.
There were hurdles, of course, just like in every romance novel. Ranger, ever the sophisticated food snob, was taken aback when he discovered Missy enjoyed a good citrus-laden Airedale Ale. Ranger, with his trademark wrinkle-nose and stifled growl, was taken aback. Huh, I thought the romance would be over before it began!
Oh, but love finds a way, doesn’t it? Ranger, earnest and waggish despite his citrus revulsion, managed to squelch his discontent. He’d bring her chicken flavoured Fur Tacos as tokens of affection and she’d laugh when Mr. Nutkins, the worn-out squirrel toy, found his way between them.
By the time the terriers performed their twilight tango atop Golden Gate Gardens, the rough waters had smoothed into a tranquil lake. So, there you have it. One helluva pup romance story. But then again, wouldn’t you expect anything less from the top dog of Pawsburg? Isn’t that right, Ranger old boy?
The End.
