Skittles PawWord Story
Hey Ma, Skids here! Just the usual, chomping on burgs (sans greens – power move), working at the Barking Boutique and playing at Husky Hill. Almost went swimming but you know me, a land lover! Frisked a little at the Chihuahua Castle. Sneezed at the vet’s talk. Just another day in Pawsburg, full of bark and bite, swift and light. Paws and kisses, your Skits.
I lifted my head from the cushion, and the creeping hint of morning sunshine carrying the whiff of bacon from the Barking Boutique spread across the room. Yes, it was another day in Pawsburg. My two best mates, Tucker and Rudy, were already up and about. Me? I go by the name of Skittles, don’t let my Jack Russell – Chihuahua mix fool you. I harbor the exuberance of a Jack with the diva-esque charm of a Chihuahua. A sassy combo, if you will.
“Paws up everyone!” I barked, nudging a squeaky ball with my snout, as I rollicked down the hallway. Work, in Pawsburg, ya see, is about being equal parts playful and professional. If we wanted regular, we’d stick to our humans’ homes.
Breakfast was a scrumptious burger, and I’m not kidding. They could have tossed me a bone, for dog’s sake, but hey, who am I to say no to a cheeseburger? Hold the greens. There’s something very empowering about boldly requesting, ‘no greens.’
Post the delectable breakfast at Kibble Cuisine, we darted off to Husky Hill for our morning conclave. I prefer this over the large masses of water at East Bulldog Bay. Shudder. Give me dry land any day. Oh, a moment there, we’ve got a delivery. Looks like Rudy’s new swim gear has arrived. Talk of the devil and the deep blue sea. Rudy seemed ecstatic, hopping around the box. I refrained from explaining my distaste for anything water-related. After all, every doggo has a preference.
Work hours comprised of sunbathing and play. I glanced at my favorite lion toy, his furry mane matted down from all the gnawing. But heck, job’s gotta be done, and we do it well. While Rudy and Tucker celebrated a successful delivery, I kept the shop alive with a chase around the infamous invisible fence. The eerie forest beyond it seemed to smirk back.
Lunch was another hailed stop at the Fetching Deli, and a quick dash at the Snooty Snout Boutique for some grooming. Night outs with the gang at Chihuahua Castle isn’t that impressive if you’re wearing yesterday’s coat, now is it? Speaking of coats, there was that dreaded vet visit upcoming soon. But let’s save that tale for another day.
When the sun dipped, and Tucker snored in his corner, Rudy and I played a quiet ball game under the soft lights of Fishy Bites. The day was almost over, and tranquility hung over Pawsburgh like a soft blanket. Under my breath, I let out a small bark, a tiny prayer for the next day. Because despite the vet, the water and the burgers sans the greens, each day in Pawsburgh is a tail-wagging adventure.
It was time to sneak back home. I curled up in my corner, my lion toy pressed close and the familiar scents of home around me. Tomorrow was another day, another adventure, and I could hardly wait. As the last of my consciousness slipped away, I could manage just a feeble bark of anticipation, knowing full well I would be faced with a brand new day under the Pawsburgh sun.
The End.
