Tanner PawWord Story
Hey Mom, Tanner Bo Banner here. Adventured into Pawsburg’s Pet Games – conquered the Bullmastiff Boardwalk, survived Retriever River, and even braved the rainy White Westie Woods. Can you believe it? I, who trembles on wet paws, won the games! Love, your courageous but forever quirky, Tanner.
I gazed out the window in the wee darkness before dawn as Tanner prepared for another stealthy retreat to Pawsburg. Where the overnight hush was pixie dusted by a plethora of mischievous canine whiskers. Animating the dull, still landscape as they left their paw prints across the city. A world where Tanner, despite his phobia of walks, could cavort and engage with his pals.
A thud from Tanner’s backyard adventure drew me away from my thoughts. The yard was the only place where the normally shy little guy would allow his heart to run free, despite the memories of furious vacuum cleaner noises that scared him silly.
Tanner dashed into the Bullmastiff Boardwalk – a path only the boldest dared take. Waggling his tanned tail and his looking like a vanilla and toffee parfait, he arrived at the renowned Pup-Tastic Pizza. It was here that Tanner went to indulge himself after an intense introductory round at the Pet Games in Pawsburg. With his aversion to bananas well-known, he always received a specially curated menu of Milk Bones and vegetable pies.
Stubborn as ever, Tanner preferred a lonely booth, wary of the other dogs letting his guard down only when his confidante, Lulu Belle, joined in for a treat from The Woofy Bakery. She was the only one who understood Tanner’s quirks, even his irrational fear of the frequenting delivery person.
The next part, the spark and spirit of the games were held at the Retriever River. Tanner, in all his underdog glory, stumbled upon this water spectacle, a bit panicked – aquatic adventure was not his forte. But Tanner wasn’t one to back down, even when wetness was in question. He faced off with bigger dogs, leaping on floating logs, teetering, and regaining balance with minimal splashes. His affinity for being alone coupled with his aptitude to adapt, made him a fierce competitor.
The grand finale at White Westie Woods was not for the faint of heart. Tanner had faced large dogs, water, and loneliness. Now, he faced his worst enemy: rain. Wet leaves stuck to his coat, turning him into a woeful pup as his competitors reveled in the drizzle. Just when I thought he’d concede, he half-heartedly pounced on and cornered an illusive squirrel. He faced the rain, wholly for the first time… winning the Pet Games of Pawsburg.
It was not only a victory but a transformation – Tanner went from a shy, quirky, little dog uncertain about the wider world, and emerged as a confident, courageous champion; forever the talk of the towns. Returning back home, the little Maltipoo curled next to me, his soft curls damp and muddy, his eyes shut with fatigue. Tanner, a character indeed, now a local hero. His dreams filled with mischief and bravado, ready for the next mystical night adventure in Pawsburg.
The End.
