Lucy PawWord Story
“Hey Ma and Pa! Just livin’ the Spencerville dream – victor of tug-of-war, cookie connoisseur, beach bone-buryin’, and weathering the storm with all our fur-friends. Holdin’ the fort here with Sprinks and thinking big – Pet Avengers anyone? All in a day’s work! Goosey smooches! – Lucy.”
“Mercy sakes alive, if it ain’t another fine and dandy mornin’ here in Spencerville,” I, Lucy, said, bouncing from my sleep silky as a trout in a mountain stream. I had me a hearty stretch, my tail waggin’ involuntarily at the thought of all the lively businesses and scenery this here town boasts.
My eye fell on Sprinkles, my mischievous sibling, all tangled up in dreams, and a slow smirk drew upon my face. It was time for our morning game of tug-of-war and, mark my words, I ain’t one to let slumber get in the way of our fun.
We ran round the backyard, dodgin’ and chasin’, till the sun had climbed a good piece up the sky. I declared myself victor, seeing as I was the one pantin’ the least. Just about then, I caught the whiff of chicken comin’ from Bark and Bites. “Sprinkles, you reckon mom-and-dad might be tempted to share?” I asked, my taste buds quiverin’.
“Nothin’ good comes from Pinin’, Lucy. Remember the broccoli incident?” Sprinkles chuckled.
I cringed at the memory. The green horror had made me bitter towards culinary experiments. So, we hopped over to Pup-Cakes instead, where the smell of peanut butter hoof cookies made me all but drool.
After cookies, we strolled down to Red Beagle Beach, where I let the sand trick me into thinkin’ I had found another bone. I never did, but the idea that I might kept me entertained.
Evenin’ fell on Spencerville. Our humble town bathed bottom to top in hues of gold. I could hear the hustle of The Pampered Pooch Salon winding down, the jingle from The Groom Room closing its doors.
As night settled, a thunderstorm rolled on in, followed by loud booms of thunder. Bein’ a protector, I rounded up every pet in Spencerville, from Fawn Pug Palace to Upper Collie Canyon, and herded everyone to safety inside The Howling Husky Hardware Store.
As the storm passed, I looked around at all the pets in Spencerville, draped in courage while shoulderin’ the discomfort, waitin’ to be reunited with their owners. A silent resolution twang in my heart, to stand guard, to keep watch.
And then, I wondered. We’re more than meet the eye, ain’t we? Us pets, creatures yet civilized – Maybe it is our place, our duty, to rise up, protect, and cherish. Yes, perhaps it is time for a Pet Avengers of sorts… But that’s a yarn for another time.
Givin’ Sprinkles a quick wink, I trotted off, tail waggin’, to dream of Spencerville, my quaint town, splendid as any I’ve known, and the adventures waiting as dawn breaks anew. As I settled in, my eyelids grew heavy. I knew I’d sleep like an apple dumpling tonight. Ah, the sweet bliss of bein’ a dog in Spencerville.
The End.
