The Curious Case of the Missing Squeak: A Tail-Wagging Mystery in Pawsburg: A Shelby PawWord Story
Hey there,
Unfur-tunately, my beloved squeaky bone went missing today! But, as Pawsburg’s top-sniffing, meatball-loving Bulldog detective, I sprung into action with Bo and Daisy. Af-fur sniffing out all of Pawsburg, from the shady Westie Woods to our favourite hangout, Doggy Depot, we found it – someone had washed it, can you believe it? Never a dull moment in this furry paradise!
Stay pawsitive,
‘Sherlock Bones’ aka Shelby
There’s something eternal about mornings in Pawsburg, but today, it smelled a little rustier. The kind of smell that could only mean one thing, adventure was in the air. Or maybe Bo had just broken into Bark and Bites, again. Either way, it was enough to rouse me from my snooze.
Through my coffee-brown eyes, the world of Pawsburg sprung into colors only I could perceive; the intoxicating rhythm of the Golden Retriever River, the mystery of Westie Woods, and the beauty of the Lower Golden Gate Gardens. Yes, it was another regular day in our little furred paradise, or so it seemed, until Daisy padded over with a frantic air about her.
“Shelby,” Daisy purred. “There’s trouble brewing.”
Being a bully gives you perspective, or maybe that’s just a hefty ego talking. Case or no case, I had my priorities. “What’s on the menu at Doggy Donuts?” I probed, my tail swishing in anticipation as I pictured those cheesy meatballs.
Daisy rolled her emerald eyes. “Probably not strawberries.”
“Thank heavens for that.” I know, I’m a bully, and I’m supposed to be tough, but strawberries were my kryptonite.
“Now, about that case,” Daisy insisted, her whiskers bristling.
That’s when it hit me. It wasn’t a rusty smell in the air, it was the scent of a mystery. My red, squeaky rubber bone was missing! It was a lot like losing a piece of myself, that squeaky piece that made me a bit quirky, a bit strange, which in turn made me, Shelby.
What followed was a whirlwind of sleuthing, getting the clues through sniffing, pawing through trails, and even falling face-first into a Fur Taco. Bo assisted me as we explored the town, from The Pawsome Pet Pharmacy to The Pampered Pooch Salon, leaving our distinct scents and a trail of confused merchants in our wake, occasionally stopping for a snack at Doggy Donuts much to Daisy’s chagrin.
Through our investigation, Westie Woods felt shadier than usual, the Garden was suspiciously serene, but we persisted, spurred by my love for that squeaky bone.
Eventually, we found it at our favorite hangout, the Doggy Depot. Someone had decided to wash the bone because it had been ‘too dirty’.
“There’s nothing like a good mystery to get my paws dirty and my tail wagging,” I mused, shaking water drops off my bone while Bo chuckled. Daisy just offered an amused twitch of her tail, a clear acknowledgement of a job well done.
“Yes, Shelby,” she mewed, her Siamese eyes glinting, “Nothing like it indeed.”
The End.
