Just the other day, I found myself up to my whiskers in a mystery—one of those capers that sends a chill down your tail and ruffles your perfect curls. You see, I’m not your typical suburban Aussiedoodle. The name’s Remi. I may have a soft spot for rubber ducks and grilled sausages but don’t let that fool you. I’m known for my courage, my determination, and my uncanny ability to whiff out the truth.

One pre-dawn morning, I woke up to the ominous scent of citrus wafting from the center of Pawsburg. It made my nose twitch and my stomach churn in unease. Citrus – the abominable scent was a stark contrast to the usual delightfully barbecue-tinged air, the sizzling sausages from Dog-gone Good BBQ. Someone was messing with Pawsburg’s olfactory harmony!

I said my goodbyes to my humans, Jane and Paul, admittedly a tad shaken as I trotted off towards the Eastern White Westie Woods. You see, that’s where the scent was strongest. My mates, Max the Labrador, Bella the Pug, and Lucy the Spaniel soon joined me. Together, we anxiously nudged our noses through the underbrush of the woods, skirting past Beagle Beach toward Retriever River, the source of the citrus calamity.

We stood our ground against the grapefruit gusts and my eyes fell upon a clandestine meeting of cats. Felines in Pawsburg? Talk about a twist! The Pooch Playhouse and Pet Partners Pet Stores were no places for cats. This was a dog’s town, a meticulously crafted canine utopia.

Immediately, I knew we had to regain control, but how were four canines to fight a whole clandestine group? We’d need more than squeaky toys and tuff-tugs. So, we set off towards Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Store, our little doggy paws padding urgently across the cobblestones.

We devised an elaborate plan that would take us deep into the belly of Pup-Cakes, the favourite eatery for the feline invaders. I posed as a new waiter. Max, Bella, and Lucy, adorned in swirl-patterned hats and aprons, went undercover as kitchen staff.

I presented myself to the table of cats and, with a shudder, offered them our ‘special’ citrus surprise. As they eagerly dug into the citrus-infused cupcakes, their crime spree ended. They bellowed in distaste, coughing and sputtering, their aversion to the citrusy inferno inside their mouths seeping out with each gasp.

Trooping out of Pup-Cakes, defeated and mismatched, they vowed never to disturb Pawsburg again. No longer would the peace of our peaceful dog haven be threatened by rogue citrus scents. The quintessential smell of Dog-gone Good BBQ filled the air once more, the smell of victory following close behind.

Back home, I plopped down next to Jane and Paul, snuggling into my cushions. Another day, another mystery solved. As I closed my eyes, my rubber ducks squeaked gently in approval. Yes, just another day in the life of Remi, the crime-solving Aussiedoodle.
