Paws-on-the-Sand Island: A Tail of Survival and Friendship: A Lacie Mae PawWord Story
Hey there,
Guess what? Buster & I have turned into survival pups, saving the day on Paws-on-the-Sand Island! From sniffing out fresh water to rallying troops on the beach, we’ve got it all covered. “Doggy Bagel Deli” seems a world away but we’ve got each other. Here’s to wild adventures until we trot back to Spencerville.
Tail wags,
Lacie “Adventure Paws” Mae
We’d just finished a satisfying dinner at the Dog-gone Good BBQ. Buster, my golden partner in crime, had managed to convince me to try their spinach special – which I regretted instantly. “I told you, Buster! Spinach? Really?”
We were our usual pack, me, Max, Daisy, and Bella – but right then, finding ourselves in the plush interiors of a giant airborne kennel, it felt anything but usual. As I looked out of the barred window, the streetlights of Spencerville were dissolving into dark shapes and shimmying ripples over the ocean. “Where’re we going, Buster? Where’s Mrs. Mulligan? What about Mrs. Davis? What about our dinner? What about our tickles? Our late-night fetch sessions?”
Before he could answer, there was a jolt and the lights went out. The next thing I remember is opening my eyes to the shrieks of seagulls and the salt-smelling gusts.
Here we were, Labrador, Retrievers, and whatnot, cast away on an island, with Mrs. Mulligan’s scarf (knitted by her, mind you) as our only souvenir. Me and Buster, we’ve always been the ones with the big hearts. So, we took it upon ourselves to rally the troops.
“Alright, gang! Buster and I are gonna head inland, find fresh water, find shelter! Max, you and Bella explore the beach, see if we can find any food. Daisy, keep an eye out for ships, airplanes, anything.”
Buster and I lead the way and much to my surprise, I was actually enjoying this…a survival adventure of sorts. Buster was the very embodiment of an explorer, sniffing out trails, marking spots on the ground. Me? Well, I majestically sat down beside the fresh water stream we had just found, bathing in the glow of the setting sun.
“Foof. We sure made it, didn’t we, Lacie Mae?” Buster asked, catching his breath as he plopped down next to me. “Straight off from the Doggy Bagel Deli, right into – Paws-on-the-Sand Survival Island?”
“It’s not perfect, is it?” I said. “But, well, not that bad I guess. Mrs. Mulligan would be proud.”
“This is our town now, Lacie. Until we find a way home. Let’s look out for each other, huh?”
As the sun set and the stars popped up in the dark night sky, we huddled together, closer to each other than ever before. We were a team, we were family. And yet, even though we were so far away from home, looking up at those stars, we remembered something very important. One day, we would reunite with Mrs. Mulligan and Mrs. Davis, and run through the luscious landscapes of our dear Spencerville once more. Until then, it was all about our own little adventure here on Paws-on-the-Sand Island.
The End.
