Paws of Rhythm: A Christmas Tale from Pawsburgh: A Bayley PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
Guess what? I turned into a drummer in Pawsburgh this Christmas! 😄 Was colder than ever, but I didn’t let it chill our spirits. Found myself a drum, joined a motley pack of pups, and we spread cheer with every beat. Not just noise – it was pure, paw-thumping joy. They’re calling me the little drummer pup that warmed hearts on Yuletide eve. A simple beat brought us all together, just like those cozy nights by the fire at home. Miss you, love you.
Happy Holidays, BayleeBoo 💖🥁✨
P.S. Can’t wait to play you the rhythm of Pawsburgh when I’m back!
I reckon I oughta tell y’all about one heck of a Yuletide I had in Pawsburgh not too long ago. My name’s Bayley, an Aussie with a rascal’s grinning mug and a heart patch on my flank as whimsical as a cloud in the sky. Now, this particular holiday season, something set my paws a-tapping a rhythm so inherent it could make ol’ Mr. Twain drop his pen and clap along.
It was colder’n a well-digger’s hindquarters in Pawsburgh, but that didn’t stop the festive fussin’ and preparations amongst the canine folk. I’d scamper past Rottweiler Ridge every evenin’, the crisp air fillin’ my lungs and the holiday hubbub creating a perfect symphony with the winter wind. Paws were busy setting up fairy lights that’d make the stars above wink in approval.
One evening, a frosty one before the big celebration, I moseyed on to Affenpinscher Avenue, where the shop windows glowed like the inside of a pumpkin. The Tail Wagger’s Tailor had Christmas bonnets fit for a dog’s domino, while The Pooch Playhouse decked their halls with bones and ribbons amply. Yet it was The Barking Boutique’s display caught the sparkle of my eye with a set of tiny drums, shinin’ under the glow of fairy lights.
Now, I ain’t no showboat nor a bellyacher, but rhythm beats in this ol’ heart like squirrels chase through the autumn leaves. I decided right then and there, them drums would be the means to spread my modest bit of Christmas cheer!
Christmas Eve, I found myself on Shiba Inlet, them cute little drums strapped cross my back. Tails were waggin’ and tongues were lolled out in anticipation of the night’s gala. Pom’s Pies wafted a smell as inviting as a warm bed by the hearth, while Canine Cafe’s coffee was perkin’ like a chorus of crickets on a summer eve. Max was there, golden and grandiose as the sun itself, and little Tippy, curled up snug as a bug, dappled in the soft glow of festive light. We was a motley crew, no doubt, and our paws itched for the night’s enchantment.
As the clock neared the moment of merry-making, I stepped up, drums at the ready. I took a deep breath, my blue eyes catching the light like the glint of mischief. And then I played. By golly, did I play! The beat was simple, but pure and spirited as the dance of snowflakes. It wasn’t a grand parade nor a fancy hoopla, but, friends, it was a melody from the very core of my bein’.
The pack, they listened, and soon their tails kept time with my humble thumpin’. Joy lit up their eyes like the break of dawn, and laughter bubbled up among us like a brook in springtime. There we was, a pack bound not just by pedigree or the love of a good scratch behind the ears, but by the simple gift of a shared beat on a Christmas Eve.
And as I played, I thought about my favorites – the fields, the apples, the watermelon’s sweet cool delight – and of those things not so favored, like the spice that sets me runnin’ or the thunder’s frightful boom. Yet here, music soothed all sorrows, like a balm to the soul.
So when folks tell of that night in Pawsburgh, when an Aussie shepherd warmed the cockles of their hearts with a drum’s rhythm, just nod and smile. ‘Cause friends, I was that drummer pup, and my tale ain’t one of grandeur, but of a simple joy freely shared amongst friends under a blanket of stars. And isn’t that the true spirit of Christmas, after all?
The End.
