The humdrum of the ordinary, that tapestry of little moments spent lounging on sunlit porches and tracing the perfumes of dinner’s promise, had suddenly lost its allure. In Spencerville, a nearly perfect place, one bulldog – that’s me, Mabel Louise – found her congenial half-grin itching for something… other.
