But should you allow yourself a good rub of the eyes and peer a wee bit closer, you might just catch a glint of the extraordinary, a dash of the space operatic verve that so rightly punctuates our otherwise pastoral Spencerville existence.

I, Zsa Zsa, found myself awakened not by the crow of a rooster, or the burbling of the coffee maker, but by the sonorous peal of interstellar chimes—a call, if you will, to the cosmic unknown. There I lay in my snug bed, my coat a delicate palette of tan and white, contemplating the depth and breadth of the universe and where my next escapade might land me in its vast expanse.

Wedged cosily between the dreamland and the waking world, my dainty paws began their customary paddling through nebulas and supernovae, my canine spirit untethered from the confines of Spencerville. I mused, as my flittering eyelids bespoke a frolicsome REM cycle, how Buddy might envy me this; him being such a terrestrial Beagle, and Whiskers—you might have guessed—lamenting in her feline grace the distinct lack of sunny counters in space on which to repose.

I was then, as the cosmos foretold, Captain Zsa Zsa, fur-brushed and furred on a davenport of stars.

My paws pressed to the control panel, toggle switches tickled by my claws, we charted a course for the Western Spiral of Westie Woods, skirting around the dark side of Black Bulldog Bay. My crew, a ragtag ensemble of plucky pups and cosmic kitties, manned their stations with the kind of enthusiasm seen only in dogs chasing phantasmal space squirrels or cats navigating the Milky Way’s creamiest quadrants.

“Captain Zsa Zsa,” chimed my first officer, a cocker spaniel with vigor in his eyes and flop in his ears, “We’re approaching the Lower Golden Gate Gardens, the gastronomic quadrant. Shall we deploy scouts?”
