Pawsburg Mysteries: The Enchanted Howl House – Mister Pemberton PawWord Story
Hi Mom,
Made some new friends, saved a duck from the pond, found my favorite ball, and even sniffed out the lost keys! All in a day’s work.
Love,
MR P
### Chapter 1: A Curious Night in Pawsburg
Well now, dear friends, Mister Pemberton’s the name, and some folks just call me Pembie. I’ve had plenty of yarns spun ’bout me in the dog circles, but tonight, there’s a tale that’d make the strangest of occurrences right ordinary.
“Now, gather ’round, doggos of all shades and sizes,” I huffed as I settled down by the flickering fire hydrant in Samoyed Square. “Lemme tell y’all a little somethin’ ’bout last night’s romp in Pawsburg.”
We were all congregated there, with the full moon overhead lighting up Papillon Promenade like it had somethin’ to prove. My crew consisted of the usual suspects: Suhuy, the border collie with a knack for findin’ trouble; and a pair of Pugs who went by the names Alfiemoonpug and Daiseymae.
Y’see, that evening began like any other. My ma had just tucked herself into bed after a long day, and soon’s she was snorin’, I snuck out the back door quicker than a spaniel chasin’ a squirrel. Usual routine, straight through Bichon Boulevard, headin’ for our favorite joint, Doggie Diner. They do a fine chicken dish there that’d make your tail wag.
But on this particular night, as we sauntered closer to the Diner, we felt a kinda eerie chill in the air, like someone walked over our graves—even Alfie, who’s usually braver than a terrier with a bone, couldn’t help but shiver his fur.
“What’s goin’ on, Pembie?” Suhuy asked, his ears perked up.
“Somethin’ ain’t right,” I admitted, and we all paced our paws a little faster.
When we finally made it to Doggie Diner, we didn’t find the usual hubbub. No happy barks or clinkin’ of food bowls filled with chicken. Instead, only an eerie silence echoed through the square. Spellbound, we trotted over to The Cat’s Cradle Craft Store nearby—in case there was some explanation to be found there.
Suddenly, a flash of purple light lit up the horizon. Reeling back in surprise, we saw a figure, not more than a shadow, slink off towards the old, abandoned house at the edge of Samoyed Square—known in Pawsburg as the ‘Howl House.’
“Do ya see that?” Daiseymae whispered, her eyes wide.
“Yup, we best follow but keep our wits ’bout us,” I responded, puffin’ out my furry chest.
We crept closer, the air growin’ heavier with every pawstep. Strange etchings marked the ground, symbols that none of us recognized but sure gave us the heebie-jeebies. At the door of the Howl House, we hesitated but curiosity got the better of us, and inside we went.
The moment we entered, a rush of cold air sent shivers down our spines. There were relics thrown about, and a strange, almost mystical contraption sat in the middle. It looked like a giant collar decorated with what seemed to be…keys?
“These were no dog’s toys,” I concluded, inchin’ closer.
Suddenly, the contraption began to hum, light emanating from its core. Images flashed into our minds—a world beyond our understanding, a place where dogs and spirits roamed freely, unearthing mysteries untold.
Suddenly, Suhuy barked, “Look!” And there, clear as daylight among the shadows, was a figure—none other than Alfiemoonpug, lost in another dimension!
“Hang on a tick!” Alfie howled, his voice echoing as if from miles away, “The keys! Use the keys!”
Each of us quickly grabbed a key from the glowing collar and placed it on the contraption. With a twirl and a whir, the room filled with a blinding light—and then, poof! Alfiemoonpug was back among the living.
“What in dog nation just happened?” he panted, bewildered.
“Looks like we ain’t the only ones with secrets ’round here,” I said, my mind racin’.
As dawn approached, we trotted back to our homes tired but wide-eyed, determined to uncover the deeper mysteries of Pawsburg. ‘Cause one thing was certain: the real adventure had only just begun.
But for now, we kept our senses sharp and our tails ready for the next moonlit night, wonderin’ what otherworldly secrets we’d stumble upon next.
So y’all listen up, and always keep an eye out. You never know what’s lurkin’ ’round the corners of Pawsburg.
