Paws and Paradise: Life in Spencerville, Heaven with a Collar: A Kaiya PawWord Story
Hey Dad, it’s your Lil Momma, Kaiya. Life is paw-fect at Spencerville, eating Furrific Fried Chicken, playing with my loyal mates Bella and Teddy, and chasing my basketball on the beach. Sure, I miss you loads, but also have fun avoiding the dreadful fruits! Can’t wait to see you someday. Till then, woofs and wags!
Spencerville – the juke-joint for the dearly departed pets. Most think of it as heaven with a collar. And there I was, plonked smack in the middle of it. Kaiya, a stout and streamline dame, part Pit, part Lab with a dappling of white across her black chest shaped just like a butterfly. A face symmetrical but for one floppy ear that gave me an air of adorable deviousness.
While some would trade a diamond-studded leash for a piece of the action in Fawn Pug Palace or the Yellow Tan Dalmatian Desert, I, took my pleasure from the simple things. Badge me playful, calm, energetic or only slightly timid, I was all that and then some, all wrapped in a fur coat of black and white.
Days over here, in Spencerville, had a certain rhythm, one that got your tail wagging just right. Mine were split between two sets of paws, two companions worth their weight in Schmackos. Bella, a fine dame who looked part Rhodesian and Teddy, the proverbial gentle giant. Together, we filled our days in the sun-soaked magic of the dog park, took on the bustling energy of the city, and dipped paws on the tickling sands of the endless ocean.
‘But what of the beach you might ask?’ This place where the golden sun, the frothy waves, and the coarse sand collide, was my private haven, the perfect spot to play a lively game of fetch. And my preferred toy of choice, a basketball, no less. Its smooth surface crying out for a well-placed bite. Something about the thrill in trying to snatch that bouncing sphere from the air, just pure bliss.
Among the cityscape of Spencerville, nestled a few gems worth a bark. Furrific Fried Chicken, Pup-Cakes and Waggle n’ Wok, soul food joints where Bella, Teddy and I would frequent. And for a little retail therapy why not take a walk into Best in Show Photography, The Doggy Depot and The Furry Friends Art Gallery.
Admittedly, there were things that ruffled my coat in all the wrong ways – pool, loud noises, swimming, rain, and god forbid, being left alone. One particular comestible that I couldn’t quite wrap my teeth around was fruit. Why anyone would relinquish a juicy steak or a piece of tender chicken for a plump piece of fruit, is just beyond me.
Toss on to this picture, my sibling Chitown, a 16yr old, a 4lb applehead Chihuahua who’s seen more sunsets than any ot us. In the gentle realm of Spencerville, this was my world, my existence. An existence of pure delight, simply waiting for the day I would be reunited with my adoring dad. Spencerville, you see, is more than just a place. It’s a state of mind and for those of us biding our time here, it’s just the leash before the reunion, the eternal lap in a human-like existence.
The End.
