One morning, as the sun’s rays grazed off my smooth white fur, I woke up with an invincible aura and a bounce in my paws. I felt an itch for adventure, something more than a usual romp in Maltese Meadow or a dip in Labradoodle Lake.

“I’m craving excitement,” I scampered off towards my pals, Max and Leo, who were engaged in a playful chasing game around Upper Collie Canyon.

Guys, I need a solid adrenaline rush. You know, something akin to the thrill I get when I hear the pop of the sausage can,” I shared my thoughts. Max, adventurous as ever, suddenly accosted us with an idea, his eyes gleaming with a familiar mischief.

“It sounds like you need the thrills from a trip on the Barktis-TARDIS,” he winked, a hint of cheekiness in his voice.

Oh, we’ve heard of this before! The Barktis-TARDIS, our version of the Doctor’s TARDIS, was a magical wooden crate that possessed the power to transport us across time and space. With courage in our hearts and our tails wagging with determination, we jumped in, a flurry of fluffy tails and floppy ears.

Before we knew it, we were in the middle of a bustling Pawsburg marketplace of the past, teetering cobblestone streets and vintage shops like The Pawfect Training Center, The Doggy Depot… and wow, even The Howling Husky Hardware Store!

Nostalgia swept over me as we traipsed along the weathered cobblestones. The aroma of familiar goodies wafted in from the Doggy Bagel Deli and Pup-Cakes. Gosh, the smell of those old-fashioned doggy bagels, to die for! And let’s not even get started on the Pup-Cakes!

But then—oh no! The terror that is the aroma of Brussels sprouts filled the air. I scrunched up my face in disgust and took a step back. Leo and Max growled through their laughter. “Come on, Shelby, there’s always an opportunity for the first time to like ’em Brussels sprouts!” teased Max, grinning wide.

Well, at the end of the day, no Brussels sprouts or even the most horrific time in history could dampen our excitement and sense of adventure. It wasn’t about where we went or when; it was about the journey and the shared stories between us – the ineffable bond of doghood! And yet, even in the melee of our adventure, I couldn’t help but miss the warmth of Carter’s lap and the simple joy of tearing into my favorite rope toy.

Well, you know the saying – there’s no place like home, whether that’s the heart of the bustling city or the heart of a gold-filled man. As Max, Leo and I stepped back into the present, into our own Pawsburg, we couldn’t hold back our wagging tails. Adventures are charming but coming back home, seal the deal! So here’s to hoping that the Barktis-TARDIS, albeit magical, never becomes our permanent ride. Because hey, time-traveling pets or not, the joy of home is unparalleled!
