Hey there, it’s your trusty Tater here! Had a this-dog-must-be-on-TV kinda day. Our terrier Snuffles dashed off into the Dalmatian Desert chasing some tail tale of hidden treasure. Our sharp-nosed squad led by yours truly, managed to sniff him out (and the delicious treasure he was after). All’s good in Pawsburg again and ya boy Tater is back under his tree enjoying a drumstick and waiting for the next tail-wagging adventure. Woof woof!

So there I was, Tater, an ordinary Labordane with an extraordinary nose, happily sheltering in the cool shade of my favorite tree in White Westie Woods. Just another day in the delectable Pawsburg. I munched down a juicy chicken drumstick I pinched from The Fetching Deli. Bliss, I tell ‘ya. But as I was savoring the last bites, I picked up an odd scent, me and my derrière twitching at the scent. That’s when I realized, something was off.

Kapow! Out of nowhere, Bella, our local Afghan model with a grace to rival Cleopatra, bounded in, her eyes wide and tail bristling with distress. “Tater!” she barked, “Snuffles…he’s disappeared!”

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m fond of Snuffles, with his frisky terrier spirit. But he’d been known to sniff out the odd adventure and return home for supper, safe and sound. “Bella, darling.” I said, sprouting my best lopsided grin, “Our rambunctious Snuffles might be just chasing after a mischievous meerkat. He’ll be back.”

But Bella’s gaze didn’t lose its worry. “No Tater! It’s… it’s…” She hesitated, “the Dalmatian Desert.” The mood hung heavy, like the ominous pause just before a thunderstorm. The Dalmatian Desert was no playground. Even us rambunctious folks of Pawsburg steered clear of its dangerous dunes.

My handsome eyebrows shot up, “What in Pupsicle’s Palace had that crazy terrier gotten himself into?” I wondered. My booming bark echoed through the woods, rallying every dog in earshot. “We’ve got a pal in a pickle! Let’s leash up, fur babies!”

With my squirrel toy (trust me; it’s more versatile than a paw-held multi-tool) wedged in my collar, we galloped towards the menacing desert, leaving the comforting scent of the Dog-gone Good BBQ in Pawsburg behind. My nostrils flared, eyes squinting against the dust storm, and fur gracefully whipping around in the desert wind. I led the rescue as my friends cloaked in my heroic shadow; our collective footsteps creating a miniature sandstorm as we ventured deeper into the desert.

The desert was merciless, sun beating down like a million fiery hounds of hell. And then, I sniffed it out – the oh-so-familiar scent of Snuffles’ squeaky toy. Stale, and wrapped in layers of sand, but undeniable.

Just like a catered slice of Doberman slapstick comedy, we found the goofball Snuffles, paw-deep in a ‘X marks the spot’ kind of scenario, digging frantically around a pair of oddly-shaped cacti. It seems the little maverick had smelt a treasure nobody else could. Long story short, Snuffles found an entire chest of the most coveted doggie treats! Our little adventure hero!

Bella squealed in relief, “Oh Snuffles!” Hero or not, he was going to hear it from her. As we returned to our beloved Pawsburg, Snuffles wore a satisfied grin while proudly carrying a boxed treat from his find. Despite the romp, life returned to normal. Bella resumed her elegant prancing, Snuffles his goofy shenanigans and me? Well, I savored the biting heroism and went back to my drumstick, waiting for the next adventure that Pawsburg had in store for its very own Tater, the Sentinel of Sniffs.
