Never sprinted back home that fast since the time I stole Benny’s bone. You know what? Maybe baths ain’t that terrifying compared to ghostly dogs. Catch ya at the Deli. Bring peanut-butter bagels!

I, Squeeze, am known as the American Pocket Bully with a coat so blue it could pass off as nightfall. My trusty droopy ears, sharp as a sat radio, and a tail more active than a metronome at a salsa convention, that’s me. My daily routine is simple: playing with cats, chasing seagulls, and causing general mayhem, as one does in the legendary lands of Pawsburg.

This quirky town was just full of delightful destinations – with kooky names like Bullmastiff Boardwalk and Fawn Pug Palace and my own personal Shangri La, Western Labradoodle Lake. Pawsburg’s delicatessens like the Yappy Yogurt and Bone Appetit served meals worthy of a Michelin star. However, the pièce de résistance was the Doggy Bagel Deli with their peanut butter bagels, heaven on a leash may I say!

But life wasn’t just chasing tails and munching bagels. Oh no, my dear reader. There was a so-called spa in this town, a.k.a The Dapper Dog Salon. The name’s ironically sublime! Me and baths go together like tweed jackets and cappuccinos on a sunny day. The very thought of my orange bucket could make my fur stand on end, much to the amusement of my pals Benny and Fifi.

Here’s where the fun part begins. Remember what I mentioned about the Western Labradoodle Lake? Its shimmering waters also hold a secret – an eerie secret. Stories whispered among the town’s dogs of a ghost dog named Woof Wraith who haunts its shores.

One fateful night, bolstered by Benny’s unending bravado and Fifi’s curious streak, we found ourselves on a reckless adventure to unravel the haunting mystery. The lake, under the ghostly glow of the full moon, felt like a scene right out from an Allen Poe tale. I tasted fear in the air, like an unexpected hint of garlic in my favorite peanut butter bagel. Heart-throbbing, ears twitching like twisted antennas, eyes peeled for the unexpected as we ventured.

Suddenly, with a chill that curled my tiny tail, there he was – the Woof Wraith! A grisly sight – his once regal fur coat was as spectral as a foggy cemetery night, and his eyes…oh good lord those piercing eyes! Contrary to the typical dog markings, his were glowing like twin jade lighthouses in an abyss of terror. A chill ran down my spine, or maybe I had just stepped into the lake. Who knows?

Then, the air filled with the Woof Wraith’s lonesome, bone-chilling howl. Now, look, reader, I’ve been scared before. We’re talking hide-under-the-couch, tail-between-the-legs level of fear. But this, this was Manhattan under Godzilla kind of terror!

To cut the long story short, we ran. Yes, Benny, Fifi, and yours truly hightailed out of there faster than you can say “Squirrel!”. Back to the comforting familiarity of Pawsburg’s lanes, leaving the haunted echoes of Woof Wraith behind.

Adventure’s all fun and games, my friend, until you encounter ghosts. Moments like these would make any dog feel grateful for a bath… Well, almost.

Guess I’ll stick to my squeaky toys, peanut butter gourmet, and cat chasing. Those are terrifying enough, don’t you think?

Sometimes, the biggest horror isn’t braving the unknown; it’s being trapped in the bath with lavender-scented soap.
