As I stand, atop the grand South Siberian Summit, I reckon I quite enjoy taking on the role of a royal hound, splendid as I am, right down to my chocolate fur tipped tail. Indeed, it is not vanity, only plain canine observation. I, Minnie, self-anointed ‘King of Curiosity’, ‘Master of Mirth,’ dare I say, ‘Duke of Dinnertime’. Ah, dinnertime! Already, I can fancy the mouthwatering aromas wafting from Dog-gone Good BBQ. Three in the afternoon, mind you, that’s when anticipation hits peak ecstasy.

Down on the East Plains, a glint from Fawn Pug Palace catches my sharp eyes, the indulgence could only be admired from afar. For, from the pinnacle, everything is- quiet, tranquil, my solitude undisturbed. My reign, palpable, yet laced with an unmistakable whiff of sausages, my nostrils twitch. The realm of Spencerville is not merely an expanse of geography. Oh no, it’s a tumble of adventure, an undulating whirl of sniffing, barking, tail wagging glory!

My rugged paw pads betray a certain softness for the alleys of Wagging Tail Bookstore, with their overwhelming smell of printed paper and bound adventures. My tail, humming a rhythmic sonnet, reminiscent of joyful times spent in the snug company of fellow paw-shakers. Each one a tale; a terrier poet in the making or a chubby Chihuahua full of tantalisingly scandalous gossip.

Oh, the scintillating social life of a Spencerville canine! While it tickles my canine curiosity, there’s a creeping dread that lurks beneath, the same uncanny sensation I get when in close proximity with anything remotely feline. A sense of longing? Surely not for a bath or a date at the vet – a dreadful thought! Ah, I see it now, that sore sensation, the heart yearning tug- it’s for Dad.

Ah, yes, my dear beloved Dad, his memory making my heart lurch with bittersweet melodies. I often dream of him, his deep comforting voice, his fingers running through my fur. Yet, it’s this allegiance that stirs faith in a grand reunion that shall come. A far-off tail wagging future that promises camaraderie, endless fetch games, and of course, no broccoli!

And thus, as the sun casts long shadows over South Poodle Pond, my sanctuary, my reign, I retire, my heart full, my spirit free, my tail resolute. Soon, we shall sup down at Bow Wow Burgers, wrest friends at The Doggie Daycare, paint new memories at The Tail Wagger’s Tailor.

In all, tomorrow will be another day here in beautiful Spencerville, where we rule, where we live, where we love. It’s perfect, it’s just pawfect! That’s the gig, you see, being Minnie, the crowned pet in the land of endless romping. And I wouldn’t trade it for a million fire-hose chew toys…well, maybe for that many.
