“Oh, you’re here for Mr. Scratch’s order?” enquired the deli owner, flashing me a conspiratorial grin wide enough to park a sled on. “Pawsburgh’s most notorious Scrooge has sent his most noble messenger.”

Indeed, I had. But my paws itched with a scheme nestled between them, as cunning as a fox but as pure as a puppy’s yawn. As I fetched the parcel deftly sealed with twine, I ventured to Retriever’s Restaurant, where the air tingled with magic and mischief.

I found myself whispering secret plans to the dogs around—a murmur here, a whisper there—a map dotted with good deeds to melt the iciest of hearts. “Fetch this,” I’d say, dropping a surprise gift before a startled but tail-wagging recipient. “Hide this one,” another instruction, as a parcel was tucked beneath a pillow for a delighted discovery later on.
