“Bubba,” came Brutus’s mouse-sized bark, a sound that could command battalions, “We’ve got ourselves a pickle—no, not an actual pickle, my dear, savory though they may be. It’s Ginger—she’s been dog-napped!”

Now, Ginger was a frisky Spaniel with twists in her fur as kooky as her spirit—entertainer at The Barkery by day, commander of dreams by biscuit-scented twilight. Kidnapped?

“Any leads?” I asked, my sentences always seeming half-written, characters waiting on the next page for me to turn.

Brutus, wearing a bandana like a cloak of morale, his ears at attention—tools of reconnaissance, whispered, “She was last seen sniffing around The Dapper Dog Salon, right before closing time.”

I nodded, the plan hatching in my mind smoother than a game of fetch. The mission was clear: rescue mission à la paw style—impossible for some, a Tuesday for us.

“We’ll need the gang. Gather the troops at Chihuahua Castle,” I suggested, my voice steady, the lull before the storm.

The crew arrived. The lead: a Dalmatian with spots like Morse code, telling tales of fires extinguished. The muscle: a Great Dane with a bark that could make baked goods shake on the shelves. Me? I had the heart of the operation: sneaking through the back alleys tailing a lead, sniffing out Ginger’s last known location. The air weighted with tension, or maybe it was just my anticipation for dinner.
