Love’s Canine Carousel: A Tail of Temptation in Spencerville: A Moxie PawWord Story
Hey Dad,
Just wanted to tell you that life’s been a howlin’ rom-com down by the Golden Retriever River – I became the canine bachelorette of Spencerville! 🐾❤️ Every tail wagging Romeo from Jasper to Bruno tried to win my heart with tricks and treats. But guess what? My heart beats for the simple joy of fetch with you and our family. These dog days are over; I’m my own pup now. See you at sunset!
Woofs and wags,
Moxie
If you ever saunter through the leafy byways of Spencerville, you might chance upon the Southern Golden Retriever River, where the sun gleams off the water like a coin toss that always comes up heads. It was here, along this auspicious strip of paradise, that I, Moxie, found myself the coveted jewel in a most peculiar cavalcade of amorous pursuit.
You see, these dear fellows of the four-legged variety had gotten it into their heads – no doubt a trick of the Spencerville air, thick with the perfume of possibility – that I was the prize to be won in an affaire de coeur not unlike that human spectacle y’all might know as ‘The Bachelor.’ And while the thought of finding a steadfast beau among these ardent admirers was as intriguing as a slice of pizza crust dangling just out of reach, it was a scenario I entertained with both a wink and a wag of the tail.
As fate would decree, ’twas not long before from Chihuahua Castle to the conglomerate treetops of Westie Woods, word spread like wildfire on a windy meadow: Moxie, the belle of Spencerville, would hold court along the riverbank, her heart opened in broad daylight to the parade of besotted beaus. Each day brought a new suitor, armed with tokens of their affection – now, there was a sight to behold!
First came Jasper, the terrier with eyes like polished coal and a demeanor as serious as a sermon. He offered me a pretzel bone toy, neatly wrapped with a bow. And while I admired his traditional approach, ‘twas him who needed the toy more than I, for his spirit seemed as tightly wound as the treat itself.
Next strutted in Clifford, a labrador of some repute, his red coat shimmering in the sun like a well-kept secret. He wooed me with the promise of joint escapist adventures into the grandeur of Westie Woods. Yet, his tales, though grand, were as hollow as a drum, missing the beat of a shared dance.
The days turned, each bringing its would-be Romeo, until at Chow Down Chow Chow, in between indulgences of delightful doggie dishes, I met Bruno, an earnest boxer with a heart as boundless as my energy. He countered my playfulness with an eager paw, bracing for each twist and turn with a boxer’s grace.
And still, as much as Bruno brought a spring to my step and a laugh to my bark, it was clear as the moon on a clear night – my heart belonged not to a suitor, but to echoes of memories past, of rough-housing with children and taking solace in beloved Dad’s gentle hand; my true north star in every dusk and dawn.
So here I’ll sit a spell longer, watching the tides of the Retriever River come and go, each wave a reminder of the love I carry. Suitors may court and hearts may flutter, but for this spirited Corgi-Aussie mix, the love that lasts ain’t found in the fanfare of a temporary show, but in the quietest moments that linger like the softest whisper of the river rush: “For now, I am my own and that is enough.”
Though those days of The Pet Bachelor are behind me like the setting sun on Spencerville’s horizon, be assured friends, this tale of mine will trot along the ages, a vignette of a dog’s heart and her indestructible bond to the joy and loyalty of the days gone and those that will surely follow when the river flows on, steadfast and true.
The End.
