Cheesy Caper: The Case of the Missing Gouda: A Kane PawWord Story
Hey Mom,
You wouldn’t believe the day I’ve had! I’m Kane, the Gray and White PitBull detective of the Pawsburgh Police Department. Today, Nyx and I cracked the case of the missing Gouda from Retriever’s Restaurant. Turns out, Archie the Cocker Spaniel was just planning a surprise cheese party for his girlfriend! Classic Pawsburgh antics. And yes, I did get a slice of cheese as a reward! đ
Love, Your favorite cheese-loving detective, Kane
It was another bustling day in Pawsburgh, and as always, I was in the thick of it. My nameâs Kane, a Gray and White PitBull with a penchant for justiceâor at least, snaffling down a slice of cheese while solving mysteries. My shift at the Pawsburgh Police Department started early today, with a patrol down Lhasa Lane. Nyx, my dependable partner and American Bully, was already sniffing around, her short, stubby legs propelling her with surprising efficiency.
âKane, did you get the memo about the cheese thefts?â asked Nyx, her eyes gleaming with intensity.
âWhich memo?â I replied, my ears perking up at the mention of cheese. âYou mean the one involving my favorite snack?â
âYou betcha. Retriever’s Restaurant reported three wheels of Gouda missing. Fishy, huh?â
âFishy is putting it lightly. Let’s collar this dairy fiend!â I quipped, as we trotted down Basenji Bay.
Our first stop was The Howling Husky Hardware Store, where Reggie, an old Golden Retriever with droopy eyes but an impeccable nose, was waiting for us.
âKane, Nyx, morninâ,â he greeted us with his Southern drawl.
âReggie,â I began, âYou wouldnât happen to know anything about the missing cheese from Retriever’s, would ya?â
âNow Kane, I might look old, but Iâve still got my faculties intact. Word on the street is that someoneâs been seen skulking around Newfoundland Nook late at night.â
âTime to hit the Nook,â Nyx declared, and without further ado, we were on our way.
Newfoundland Nook was a cozy part of town, filled with charming shops and eateries. As we nosed around, we stumbled upon The Doggy Depot, where August, a mixed breed with an almost regal black mask, was making his rounds.
âAugust!â Nyx called out. âHeard anything about the cheese caper?â
âAh, the great cheese conspiracy,â August said dramatically, making sure every dog within earshot got a good listen. âI might have a lead. Try Shepherd’s Shawarmaârumorâs that the new chefâs got quite an array of âsecret ingredients.’â
Off we bounded to Shepherd’s Shawarma, where we found the chef, a well-groomed Beagle named Bailey, amidst aromatic spices.
âBailey, we need to ask some questions,â I said, trying to contain my usual enthusiasm for food when confronted with myriad of scents.
âSure, fellas, whatâs up?â Bailey replied, his beagle eyes wide with innocence.
âCheese. Missing. Favored by you?â Nyx cut to the chase. Direct as always.
Bailey laughed, but his laugh had a nervous edge. âLook, I didnât steal it myself, but I heard some murmurings over at Pawprint Pizzeria. Thereâs a Maltese named Bella who hangs out thereâsheâs got quite a penchant for Gouda.â
Pawprint Pizzeria was our next stop. Itâs Pawsburghâs go-to for belly-patting good pizzas, but today, it was all about uncovering the cheesy truth. Bella, the Maltese in question, was lounging by the pizza oven, looking suspiciously content.
âBella, weâre looking into some missing cheese. Retriever’s kind,â I said, trying to sound both authoritative and nonchalantly coolâchanneling my inner Sorkin dialogue delivery.
âCheese, you say?â Bella responded, her eyes glittering with mischief. âWell, I might have seen somethingâor someone. A Cocker Spaniel named Archie was acting mighty peculiar around some cheese crates last night.â
And just like that, we had our prime suspect: Archie. After some more sniffing around, we collared Archie near Basenji Bay, his fluffy ears drooping in guilt as we questioned him.
âOkay, okay, I admit it!â Archie whimpered. âI was just trying to set up a surprise cheese party for my girlfriend. I didn’t mean to cause such a stir!â
Nyx and I exchanged a glance before bursting out laughing. Puppy love and cheese? Only in Pawsburgh.
Case closed. Back to the station, with one more mystery solvedâand hopefully, a nice reward of cheese for yours truly. Because after all, solving crimes works up quite an appetite.
The End.
