“Stardust and Pawprints: An Evening in Spencerville” – Lucy PawWord Story
Hey Mom! š¾ Guess what? Iāve been sniffing out clues and wagging my tail to save the day. Turns out, little olā me could make quite the detective! š¶š”
– Lulu šš
Well now, wonāt you come sit a spell, and let me unfold a tale of two kinds of strangers meeting under the twilight skies of Spencerville.
It all began one summer evening at the Western Fawn Pug Palace, where I, Lucyāthough most call me Luluāhad just finished a rousing tug-of-war bout with Bella, my fellow stout-nosed compatriot. Weād been pawing around with old toys at The Pawfect Training Center and decided to saunter down to Upper Black Bulldog Bay for a bit of serenity, the only thing nearly as nice as momās green beans.
Now let me tell you a little about me first, as I reckon some might not be rightly acquainted with my kin and me. Iām a White English Bulldog with a birthdate going back to June 10, 2014. A playful and loyal soul, brave as a squirrel-eyed hawk, openwide curious, and just a mite stubborn. Mama used to say that when the world stops turning, Iād probably still be trying to pull the moon down for a closer sniff.
Anyhow, Bella and I were ambling down the path to Brown Boxer Beach, the eveningās colors painting our white fur with hues of rosy orange. I got wind of something foreign in the salty springtime airāsomething that made the grand squawks of the birds turn awfully silent.
“Reckon thereās a storm a-brewing,” Bella murmured, her whiskers twitching. But this was no ordinary storm, I tell ya. The horizon lit up with a glow stranger than ice cream and beans mixed together. And then, out of nowhere, the light got bigger and nearer, until standing before us were the oddest looking creatures.
Now, mind you, Iāve seen many a thing in my daysāa muskrat trying to be friends with an orange pull toy, even a football that seemed to enjoy being chewed more than being thrownābut these creatures took the treat. They looked like elongated cats but without fur, glassy and shining eyes reflecting our curiosity.
Suddenly, a voice resonated in my noggin, clearer than mama calling me for snack-time. “Greetings, beings of Spencerville,” the voice intoned. “We come in peace.”
Bella, brave as she might be, had her hackles raised higher than the highest hie. But me, I stepped forward with all the grace of an English Bulldog. I gave a friendly wag of my tail and offered them a sniff.
“Well, how do, you spacey fellers,” I said, not moving my jowls at all, but thinking my mightiest. Turns out, they could understand me just fine.
The leader, who Iād later come to know as Galactic Glitterbug, extended what one might call a paw, and before long, we were in quite a chatter. They’d come seeking a nearly perfect placeāturns out, extraterrestrials ain’t so different from us dogs after all.
I invited our new friends over to Bark ānā Roll for some snacks. They seemed intrigued by the very idea of a Squirrel Tug-of-War, and I reckon it aināt a bad thing to show some hospitality. While dipping those glassy eyes into bowls of the finest treats Fetch! Toys and Treats had to offer, they shared stories about interstellar tug-of-wars and surfing on star beamsāmade me almost feel small and yet mighty at the same time.
As the night drew on, those fellers got to missing their kin on some starry planet a million licks away. And as I turned my gaze upward, towards the same sky where my mom resided, I felt a swell of comfy understanding. We all got placesāand folksāweāre longing to reunite with.
In time, those visitors bid farewell, lifting off with a sparkle in their engines that lit up Brown Boxer Beach like Fourth of July sparklers. And there Bella and I stood, anchors to the ground in this nearly perfect Spencerville that became just a wee bit more magical that evening.
As I padded back to Upper Black Bulldog Bay, my thoughts wandered back to mama. Yes sir, knowing one day all paths lead back to where love started makes this wait just a little easier.
So, if you ever find yourself staring up at the night sky from the shores of Spencerville, and catch a glimpse of something sparkly and strange, well, you just rememberāyou might just be watching some very good friends of mine.
