Russell PawWord Story
“Yo Pops, it’s Bingbong. Been busy being the top dog in Spencerville. Mornings are rough (pertaining to the early sun), but Mugsy squeezes in some comfort. I’ve been hobnobbing with Barkley at Pawsome Pancakes, acting in dramatical canine plays, tossing around my Blueberry to keep up with Tanner, and giving my critique on modern art pieces at The Furry Friends Art Gallery. My evenings are high-class dinners at The Bark Shak, followed by some regal grooming. Missing you, but livin’ it large. Until next time, Bubbub.”
The sun had just woken up in Spencerville, or rather, hadn’t hit the snooze button yet. My name is Russell, a brindle and white English Bulldog with eyes that have made many a heart melt, and I was about to start another beautiful day in this pet-friendly town. The place where dogs, cats, and any manner of domesticated animals can dine on prime rib-eye steak at Fur Tacos or lend a paw in crafting masterpieces at The Furry Friends Art Gallery.
“Mornings! Who needs em?”, I muttered, like an old curmudgeon, as I shook off residual dreams and poked my head out of my cozy bed. My favorite stuffed bulldog, Mugsy, gave me a comforting squeeze. With the grace of a walrus on roller skates, I lumbered to the doggie door and squinted into the morning light, mentally berating the landscape for its ungodly brightness.
The day’s schedule was tightly packed – a power meet over a steak on a stick at Pawsome Pancakes with Barkley, my English associate from across the pond, followed by bringing down the house at The Pooch Playhouse with a remake of King Lear – canine edition.
A wave of focus kicked in as I pawed through my toys for ‘Blue,’ my trusty, indestructible Frisbee. Not only was it ideal for brushing up my acting skills, but was also vital for communication. In fact, it was my version of a Blackberry – a Blueberry, if you will. A sharp, powerful toss into the yard would be coded message for Tanner the rat terrier to rendezvous at the Red Beagle Beach.
Dinner was a table reserved at The Bark Shak, featuring the best peanut butter this side of Spencerville. And right after, the evening would bring the latest art exhibition at The Furry Friends Art Gallery. Serving as an esteemed art critic for my circle of furry friends – like Zelda, Millie, and Charlie – was tough, I’ll admit. Fortunately, my stubborn streak always comes in handy for those modern art pieces that look suspiciously similar to the contents of my water bowl on a full moon night.
Of course, the key to being productive is to embrace the little diva in you, as I’ve learned from my close confidant, Lil Dot. Thus, ring in the grooming sessions at The Pampered Pooch Salon because, let’s admit it, elegance demands effort.
All in all, in Spencerville, every day is a buffet of experiences that people in grey, dull human cities can only dream of. You’d think that it’s too perfect and I’d miss my owners. Well, I do, but also, I know that one day we’ll be reunited. Till then, Mugsy and I have a town to run, a Frisbee to throw, and a life to live.
The End.
