Scene: The sun breaks the serene slumber of Pawsburg, as roosters of the hen houses back on earth yawn their morning tune. And Nelson, the mightiest Bulldog this side of Boxer Beach, stirs from his dreams of ground beef and car rides. ‘Morning always rolls around too soon,’ he thought. His mismatched eyes squinted at the shimmering day, his legs dragging him to consciousness.

“Pawsburgh ain’t for the weak,” he gulped down his morning brew from the Bone Appetit, picked at his scrambled egg breakfast. “Yup, fun and adventure are the first orders of the day here,” he said, kicking up dust as he sauntered over to his favorite hangout, The Pawfect Training Center.

The rowdy banter of Zach, his lanky Labrador friend, served as the familiar soundtrack as Nelson pushed open the saloon-style doors. “Ain’t nothing like the feeling of a rubber bone between my jaws,” Nelson wafted in, his tongue lolling out in a goofy grin. Zach, who was all elbows and knees, toppled over a training dummy, sending both of them into a fit of hysterics.

“Nelson!” A familiar voice chimed in. Christine, the town’s vet, and part-time sheriff, tipped her hat from the side of Ruff-n-Ready. Christine was the Doc Holliday to Nelson’s Wyatt Earp, forever tackling trouble, ensuring everyone played nice.

With Kong toy in mouth, Nelson was soon immersed in a mock duel with Zach. The laughter, the cheer, it was infectious, filling every cranny of the rough and tumble town. Between the tumbleweeds of the Tan Dalmatian Desert and the frothy waves of Brown Boxer Beach, Nelson and his friends made their world, a stage. Unlike the sleepy towns that dotted the old western tales, Pawsburgh was alive with mischief and merriment.

As evening painted the sky, Nelson moseyed his way over to the Woofy Bakery. The baker, a grizzled Golden Retriever, slid over a saucer of his specialty, the ‘Beefy Delight,’ lavished with a scoop of ice cream. Good food, good company, Pawsburgh was life at its best.

“Ai caramba,” He uttered, his snout smeared with cheesy remnants and ice cream. His belly full, Nelson headed for home, stopping momentarily at Tail Wagger’s Tailor. The bustle and clatter of the day made way for soft whispers, under the blanket of the night.

“Life is a bowl of kibble, some days nuggets, some days gravy,” Nelson spoke to himself, as the moon’s reflection danced in his mismatched eyes. He was the king of this wild west dream, and waking up was always the hardest part.

With a deep sigh, he curled up in his comfortable nook, his Kong toy nestled beside him. His assurance of “the more the merrier,” extended to Pawsburgh itself. The town never slept. As one dream ended, another began. The waking world could wait. In Pawsburgh, under the blanket of stardust, Nelson was home.

“Goodnight Pawsburg,” he whispered, yawning at the moon. “Tomorrow, we ride again.”
